They did quarantine in their homes however than was not the only thing the Chinese did to stop it. They organized two kinds of special clinics, one to test those with fever for diseases other than COVID-19, and if a person with fever is negative on all other diseases, then he is sent to do coronavirus test in another clinic. If positive he is taken to quarantine hotel if mild case or admitted in hospital if more serious case. Chinese checked the temperature of citizens on every corner, outside buildings where people live, on crossroads, in front of supermarkets.
So far no indication of similar measures being taken in Italy. Therefore the death rate is still rising and the number of new cases is still not going down.
We need those kinds of measures in every country, starting ASAP. However many countries are still two weeks late with their measures, a country where I live being a prime example of idiotism. To make matters worse there is a strong indication of not reporting correct numbers, trying to show how there is no exponential growth happening here. It will be bad, very bad next week.
Nanshan Zhong, a Chinese doctor who is world-leading expert on novel coronavirus said that if we employ proper measures right now there is a chance this will be over by June.
