Was it ever considered to make the mulitplier for gold and exp go, say, from 5x to 4x etc etc etc instead of making it a suddent 5x to 1x when you lose?

I had just logged in here to post this same suggestion.  Nice to see someone else having the same thought.

Make the multiplier tick down after a loss instead of completely reseting.  It would dampen some of the rage and pressure teammates are putting on each other.

I believe this was discussed  when the original plan was made. This would make things a bit too easy.

I wouldn't especially mind either way, but as Wooki said, it'd make grinding and such much easier. The incentive to winning vs losing would also be much lower. The way it is now makes me want to actually win and continue winning...

Maybe not -1 for the lose, but -2 or -3 ? This way you can lose once in the blue moon and don't lose everything, just most. Still, just an idea, i don't mind current system, it's ok.

dunno about that... but can we do something about draws dropping the multiplier to x1 for both sides? thats just offensive. some lil wanker hides in the bushes and your team goes from x5 to x1. bad deal.

I've had this happen a couple times too, and believe me none of the teams were happy with that.

It could just be a divide by two, without rounding up, so on loss: 5x -> 2x ; 4x -> 2x ; 3x-> 1x; and so on. Two losses, without at least  two wins between them, would put you back at 1x.

I agree about this. A drop from x5 to x1 is too much.

Another option would be to cap multiplier at 3x, but implement your idea. Hovering at 5x and 4x multiplier forever would be absurdly broken. But hovering at 3x and 2x multiplier is more consistent and encourages a team that just lost to regain the lost multiplier tier, rather than to just deny the opposing team a better multiplier for the sake of (griefing). This will lessen the pain of losing a 5x multiplier, and ensure that fast leveling/gold acquisition is not solely dependent on winning a long streak of rounds, but rather just winning more rounds than not on average.

I would agree with a max x3 multiplier, and a -1 multiplier per defeat.

Less random facors, less whining from people getting switched to loose just after getting a x4 for the first time, less difference between the lucky bastards (x5,x1,x1,x1,x2,x3,x4,x5,x5,x5) and the unlucky ones (x5,x1,x2,x3,x1,x2,x3,x1,x2,x3), though in this configuration, they have the same amount of victories. -_-
The actual system, with already the upkeep and all, is way too much luck based. upkeep is fine, since gold isn't difficult to earn. But xp is another story.

I've also thought about this and I think it is a good idea. A -1 multiplier per defeat feels more fair than the way it works now.
You can still have 1x for 10 rounds though, which I had yesterday. A bit annoying but... fair somehow :)

I also agree with Bulzur, the multiplier should be decreased to x4 or x3.
I did some "tests" and found out that you would get a bit more XP overall even with x3, unless you have a K:D ratio of 15:1 perhaps :)
