Question for Horse Archers

Lets say you are wearing leather/light chainmail armor.

If you have tried more than one horse, at what type of horse do you start dying more often earlier than the horse does?
If your name is on either of these 2 lists: http://goo.gl/0SEqf -- http://goo.gl/I3SFf
And you want to be on youtube dueling famous fighters. Add imkharn to steam.

Cataphract.
I'm not normal and I don't pretend so, my approach is pretty much a bomb crescendo.
Death is a fun way to pass the time though, several little bullets moving in staccato.
The terror of my reign will live on in infamy, singing when they die like a dead man's symphony.

more speed means you will die faster due to speed bonus agaisnt, but more speed means you can move faster across the map and dodge people...How good are your dogging skills?

I use a course and dont die fast. I find a sarranid gets shot too easily, its more of a individual play style more than the type of horse

Ok fine... for whatever playstyle you happen to play; what is the cheapest horse you can ride where you die before the horse does?

if you're wondering what horse you should get as a HA, go for courser. What you need is speed to escape. However, going for the arabian warhorse may also be an idea, but then you have to dodge the lancers instead of outride them.

If you want to die before your horse you really have to go for one that is atleast armored. So that would be the war horse. However, I'd say speed and manouvrebility are better attributes to stay alive than a much-surviving horse, atleast for a HA.

Also if you wanna avoid being a "taker", you should change the bow with a lance. ;)

I use desert horse for Ha/HX because it is maneuverable, cheap, and doesn't go o fast so you have a better reticule. On the courser even with 4 HA skill the reticule gets huge at full speed, it stays tight for desert horse, destrier, cataphract.

Quoted for truth.

I use the steppe horse. Its a bit slow, and sucks if you decide to try and couch a lance with it, but it turns on a dime. About 60% of the time my horse dies before I do. Then again, I'm a pretty reckless cavalry player.
So with PT >10 stones become simple too effective

Ever since i started using arabian horse im addicted so manouverable and being 3x heirloomed it is really fast as well.

I use cataphract if the archerspam is really thick or if there is more than one good HA on other team

I think this depends more on the behavior of the horse archer than which horse is picked. I always prefer high manueverability over armor/speed. You really just have to be cognizant of enemy ranged and cavalry to keep from taking hits in the first place.

My favorite HA horses in descending order:

Arabian
Desert
Courser
Steppe

It all depends on map and players in enemy team.
The best thing is to have several horses to choose from.
This is true no matter if you play 1h, polearm or ranged.

The arabian horse can be godlike or total crap depending on the above.
A destrier is always somewhat decent on every map so if you plan to heirloom one you should maybe pick the destrier. It's the best all around horse.

Being a lancer on a "ferrari" myself I often end up running straight into a wall or other obstacle simply because the bad maneuverability of the courser. I really hate it when that happens and wish I had heirloomed an arabian horse instead.

Well... now I'm about to fully heirloom the Arabian too :)
After that I might heirloom the Destrier. So what horse is the best really depends on the situation.

I like hunting coursers as HA, so using a courser is really useful.  If you are into bump-shooting infantry then the destrier or cataphract is the way to go.  If you tend to shoot at mid-distances and are more worried about enemy foot-ranged then go with arabian or desert or steppe as its pretty easy to dodge arrows at mid-range when your horse can turn on a dime in a different direction.
