from the study
an unusually high concentration of the green bile pigment biliverdin in the circulatory system of these lizards makes the blood, muscles, bones, tongue, and mucosal tissues bright green in color, eclipsing the crimson color from their red blood cells
The lizard blud is technically still red, its just dyed green from the large amount of bilivedin.
They say we also have bilivedin in our bile but if we had concentrations at levels like that lizard it would be lethal. Maybe one day genetically engineering humans will be legal and we could get green blood too.
