''This game was the perfect example of the garbage Valve will let slide and even protect behind their Early Access program.
You might want to clarify who you're referring to when you talk about 'dev' since this game went through 2 dev teams, neither of which had control over the project. If your only complaint is that they're lying about funding I have a timeline for you:
- December 2014 - Original Dev Team "Donkey Crew" fail their kickstarter campaign to fund and make the game themselves.
- Shortly after failed kickstarter an interested party approached Donkey Crew offering to fund the development of their game, but the tradeoff was that Donkey Crew had to give up majority control in their own project. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥ deal, but the only one available to them. They accept.
- 'Warlock Wireless Ltd' a dormant company (registered some time even previous to failed kickstarter) on Companies House suddenly has new shareholders and becomes active again- members of Donkey Crew appear for the first time on their accounts with a couple of shares here and there whilst 'Daedalus Partners LLP' hold majority shares. Daedalus Partners appear to be some weird investment company. Maybe *the* investor, or just representatives for them.
- 2016 - Donkey Crew, a team of several developers, are put up in an office in Northern Ireland to work on the game as their full-time job. At the expense of the company that's funding them.
- August 2016 - the game launches into Steam Early Access and sells more than expected. Up till now all development has been at the cost of the investor, or previous to this in the Donkey Crew's free time (they crowd-funded from fans years previously).
- December 2016 - the game has poor population, poor sales, and declining reviews.
- January 2017 - the Donkey Crew are fired from the game they made.
- Spring 2017 - a new team is brought in to develop the game. At this point consider how many copies of the game they would need to sell each month to pay a team of approx 10 developers to work on it full time.
- Start 2017 - End 2017 - game sells poorly, reviews are awful, someone somewhere is still paying a medium-sized team of professional developers out of their own pocket.
- December 2017 - desperate ploys to revive the game including free weekend (and arguably several months of superficial patches with no substance to generate interest)
- December 2017 - whoever was paying for the 2nd development team to work on this project (cos the sales alone sure weren't at this point) decides to stop paying them.
- December 2017 - professional developers stop being paid to develop something, they stop developing it.
Here's a difficult concept to grasp: Even the nicest investor isn't a charity, they're not just giving money away forever when they don't expect a return.
I'm talking purely about the money here, there are plenty of other threads to rag on the game itself, GreenManGaming, Steam and all the various parties who dun ♥♥♥♥ed up if you so choose. But in fairness to whoever was paying the wages of the dev-team, they poured money in for a lot longer than I would have.''
You should go to jail for fraud . Yes you and all the doneky team taking money from little kids .
