Heh don't drink like I used to. Probably will last me most of the season. I partake of the holy herb and the drink but both in relative moderation these days.

the holy herb, the drink, and the sniffle snow; the 3 things required on a nice relaxing weekend.

i've been hard on the crown royal (northern harvest) lately, bought a 3 liter of it and made a couple 5 liter whiskey sours with a pesticide sprayer.

i love college.

for me it's the drink, the Malaysian tree dirt, and the caffeine bean*

tastes like shit no doubt, but I feel like it is unique in the field of booze and therefore worth a tasting.

My all-time favourite summer selection. 4 really different ales, from the same brewery. Imo they're all winners so the fact they sometimes sell all 4 in a box together in supermarkets is a must-buy for me when I see it. Anyone not from the UK who wants to try something from over here could do a lot worse than trying this selection.

Including the blurb/description for each (because the descriptions on the back of good beer bottles are like food-porn to me) and my own notes.

First Call - 4.0% ABV
"A classic country ale, First Call is brewed with a single hop variety for purity and character. The dwarf hop First Gold grows in low hedgerows enabling a better quality harvest. A clean, fresh, distinctive beer with hints of orange and spice from the hop."
It mentions hints of orange, but I just get smoothness. I have a really low tolerance for citrusy beer, and think the Citra hop is way overused, if this was guilty of being a citrusy ale that would have been enough for me to ignore this set and get the bottles I like individually. As it stands, this one's just a really nice amber ale which wins extra points for using dwarf hop. Probably my 3rd favourite in the set.

Hopping Hare - 4.5% ABV
"Hopping Hare is thrice hopped with three types of hop used during the brewing process. Aromatic Goldings and Cascade combine to provide an uplifting citrus-grapefruit and floral aroma, whilst First Gold carries the bitterness. The effect is a refreshing ale with a unique hoppy aroma and well-balanced bitterness that is bound to satisfy! It is a terrific match with roast lamb and spicy Thai dishes!"
Again, if you're like me you'll zoom in on the words "citrus-grapefruit" and the fact they say "hop" around 100 times in the description. We all have our threshold for how hoppy we're willing to go. To set your mind at ease, the "citrus-grapefruit" is only in the aroma, you won't taste anything like that in the beer itself and the hoppiness is well within limits. Whilst I'd still describe it as "a hoppy ale", it's maybe a 6 for me if 10 is too hoppy for my tastes. Super-drinkable, and when I say it's my 4th favourite in the set that's not an insult to this ale I just really really like the other 3.

Poachers Choice -  5.7% ABV
"This rich, smooth brew has a softly spiced sweetness with dark liquorice notes and a fruity damson aroma. Poachers Choice is a gutsy ruby ale that is well matched with hearty game pie or a tangy mature cheese."
Whilst you're drinking it you won't have a clue that you're drinking a beer at 5.7%. It's fruity, warming and smooth, very well-rounded. It's not wrong, ideally you'll have some cheese or meat nearby to eat whilst you're drinking this because dear god. This is my favourite in the set hands-down, and probably one of my all-time favourite ales to drink in any weather. It'll do you right in the Winter and Spring because it's robust and warming, but the fruitiness lets it stand up to summer in a way other strong ales usually don't imo.

Blandford Flyer - 5.2% ABV
"Don't just take our word for it, ask any fisherman and they'll attest - it's not only the trickle of trout that bites on the tranquil River Stour at Blandford. Should you wade these waters on a warm summer's night, beware the infamous Blandford Fly, whose brothersome bite can only be soothed with a spicy slice of fresh ginger. A uniquely sweet and spicy golden ale. A refreshingly different ginger taste is offset with hints of sweet toffee."
I've never really been into ginger beer, ginger ale or really ginger fullstop. So it's weird that this is my 2nd favourite in the set. But I can't help it, there's something in the smell and taste of the toffee-gingeryness of the ale that's just incredibly moreish. On this one there isn't really anything to add, the description above does a good job of describing how it tastes, I can only really add that I think they pull it off perfectly.

Last couple of years, they've been my fave

Im a big fan of proper English ales too (we are a dying breed sadly) but not so much from bottles tbh....has to be cask for me, flat and warm. That's the shit about living in ireland, every week some hipsters are being out a new "craft beer" named "xxxxx" red ale or "xxxxx" pale ale....generally they all taste like shit for the same reason, they are gassed to fuck and served way too cold.
