A SATA slot is a SATA slot.

So, that means, that a SATA cable plugged in a ROM goes into the same slot that a HDD or an SSD would? Phew.

What do I do now? Do I run the app from the CD? I still can't see the SSD on my PC, by the way.

edit: I'll have to go into the BIOS won't I? Goddamn it.

You can't see the new SSD because it's unformatted. You need to format it first. Use Disk Management tool to do it.

BTW any superior DIY alternatives you guys would recommend before I buy a proper 2,5" to 3,5" casing? I taped it on top of the ROM for the time being, any way you guys see that backfiring? will the tape melt?

Also, I found these when I was digging through the PC, what are those for?

yea I know it's dirty, I haven't opened it for awhile until today

Reminds me that my ssd is just loosely hanging on it's SATA and power cables for years. Always planned on getting a case some day, but then again waste of time & money.  :D

Thanks for all the help. I've been fiddling with BIOS for the past 4 hours and then found out that I just need to delete all the partitions

Last question. The installer didn't let me log into my account so I had to make a new one, how do I switch and activate Windows?  :)

I have about the same setup but I have a gtx 660. So I gotta upgrade that soon.

660 masterrace!

But yea, nothing needs upgrading really.
IF you have too much money, then save some more for an i7, another 8GB of RAM and a GTX1080. Then you will be set for at least 6 years easy. (Unless they release some insanely advanced shit in the next years)

Chances are your old RAM is not compatible with his Motherboard.

Picture is a molex cable, the white one is an old school fan header if I'm not mistaken.

Taping an SSD is ghetto but works, you can get 2.5 to 3.5 adapters on Amazon for like a fiver.

If it's a stationary case, then you can just leave it as is, really. SSDs have no moving parts, they don't vibrate around the way HDDs do. Securing them in place is just for being neat.

Chances are your old RAM is not compatible with his Motherboard.

Since he has a dual-core, like I had on my computer, chances are it is. But just to be sure, they are. Ok, nevermind, seems like I don't have them anymore

90GB worth of porndata in 10 mins? no problemo.
I can finally say, that my computer's faculties are faster than my own  :)

Modern cases have screws for 2.5" drives on the back side of the mobo plate. SATA connectors are all the same, except you want to use SATA 3.0 at 6Gb/s, not any other. Normally most if not all of your connectors are like this. Also it's probably best to leave it dangling than to tape it due to temperature.
