Do 4k monitors at 100+ hz even exist yet? I've seen 2k at 144hz, but not 4k. Would be pretty nice. 4k still damn expensive though.

don't know, but 2k is nice too and you could more easily get decent fps with good gpu. This looks nice for example:

Afaik freesync is only compatible with AMD(I have nvidia) and you need a high-end card, whereas gsync monitors do most of the sync work for the GPU + this test shows that gsync is noticably better, when running between 30 and 60 fps, which is my problem, I rarely go below 40 on any game and if I am over 60 theres no use for it

also did someone else's yt button also disapear when making a post? I have to write it manualy since like 2 weeks ago, might be a soft mute

This seems to be the way to go, as far as monitors go - but goddamn the price tag on that thing!

GPU: GTX 960
RAM: 8GB DDR5(? I think)
CPU: i5-4590 3.3GHz (quadcore)

What's limiting my performace the most? It's the i5, isn't it?

Skylake i5 6600
Asus Z170-A would be a solid choice.
GTX 960 (MSI Gaming 4G if possible)
and go for DDR4 with Skylake, not 3. 8GB is ok but i would get 16.

I think those are the best items that you can get as a money-friendly upgrade.

I don't think I could buy anything from ASUS again. I used to have laptop from them, that fried itself just after the warranty expired.

Haven't read any of the posts in this thread but here's my two cents from personal experience.

2k and 4k look great, but aren't worth the low fps and horsepower required to run it well. Get a 1080p 144hz monitor, it will change the way you enjoy games. Now I just strive for 120 fps in all my games because its so good looking.

I have a GTX 970 and it works great for 1080p, but it doesn't maintain anything above 60fps well without sacrificing graphical fidelity. So I need to upgrade.

However, I would wait for the new GTX 1000 series to come out and then upgrade to a GTX 1070 or 1060. I personally am saving for the GTX 1070 to use the full potential of my 144hz monitor, hopefully. I can never go back to 60hz again. Maybe i'll upgrade to a 2k 144hz monitor when GPU's become more powerful and cost effective to run in a few years. Just make sure to go ASUS with your monitors, imo.

I use an ASUS VG248QE, it was the best purchase I made for my gaming rig. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313

So you think, it'd make a big difference in performance with the nvidia setting, that takes load off the CPU by saving to the disk, on?

EDIT: I will get the EVO since it's way cheaper, hope I don't regret it.

Basically, the SSD will make a difference in loading times and your PC will be a *lot* snappier with it, especially at boot time. You won't get a lot of additional FPS out of it unless you play games that have pop-in issues. Also I don't think I understand what setting you're talking about, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist.

As for monitors, if you go for high refresh rate or higher resolution you will need a big upgrade to your GPU to actually enjoy it. I have an overclocked 980 Ti and a 1440p 144Hz G-Sync monitor (https://www.asus.com/Monitors/ROG_SWIFT_PG278Q/) and my setup gets 60 FPS in The Witcher 3 with most everything at ultra.

Basically the SSD affects everything including games. We're not talking FPS but loading times are much better. Allegedly half the problems with Arkham Knight were due to mechanical hard drives and that caused a bottleneck which then caused massive FPS drops because the HDD couldn't transfer data fast enough. This is uncommon but regardless an SSD is the single biggest improvement you'll get. Get that and you're set, then get a 1060 when that turns up. Your i5 is fine, your 8GB RAM is mostly fine, 16GB is becoming the norm but not yet. Besides RAM isn't that expensive.

Pretty sure that Nvidia has a setting that lets shaders save on disk to take off the load from the card.

I don't have the SSD yet, but as I understand it I put my system folder and all the games I want to use the SSD on it, right?

Er. You'll want to reinstall Windows on it. It comes with a disc that has cloning software so you can use that but I'd recommend a full reinstall for fresh smelling Windows.

Is Windows 10 tied to the MS account or do I have to find the CD, cause I don't think I have that.

You can get a tool off Microsoft's website which creates a USB build key, then just stash the USB stick somewhere.

Well...

I'm an idiot, I kinda skipped the part where they tell you that the SSD doesn't ship with the neccessary SATA cables. So... I used the ones from my ROM (I installed the thing migrate thing from the CD beforehand) Will this work? Do I need to plug the other end of the cable somewhere else, than it was before?
