Night is tricky, but we aim for full moon nights (bright as day with de-saturated colors). Otherwise you end up cranking up the gamma to prevent it, effectively making it pointless/annoying.

Exactly, that's why I'm suggesting having different night phases most of which are pretty bright interrupted by short darker periods, like having cloads in front of the moon.
Also as a contrast, fires could be quite bright during nights and arrows and catapult loadings will be automatically lit on fire. So much opportunities to make nights really beautiful.

Isn't flaming arrows just a waste of GPU power? Not to speak of historically inaccurate.
I suppose if people want to use flaming arrows they should be allowed but making it default seems like going overboard.

Is it though? They wouldn't need to emit lighting and shadow. A simple glowing would do the deed.

I suppose you could do it that way. I don't know if it would look any good though :(
Either way what is the point then in regards to making dark nights more visible if the arrows wouldn't create in-game lighting?

(Sorry for being so pessimistic though :( )

Lol. This is both true and sad :(

Hopefully the devs will make some kind of anti-texture-cheat measure like the one introduced with the WSE2 launcher.

The point is to show off nice effects. Burning arrows aren't exactly fit to spent light anyway.

Gotta say I'm very excited for this game. Lots of people I know like to hate on it or w/e but I'm pretty pumped. It reminds me of when I first say footage of Reign of Kings and was like "Wow that game looks awesome" even though it ended up sucking balls. The reason it sucked tho was because its combat was literally a worse version of Chivalry, so with OKAM's improved combat and hopefully better building systems it should easily blow it outta the water.

Ah, I see.

Ok. This will be my last "grumpy guy complaint".
I am really sorry. but...

The thing were people want to show of nice effects in games and movies just for the sake of showing nice "epic" effects: really rubs me the wrong way.
I think it is one of the reasons that there are so many horrible single player experience in AAA games these days.
The developers use way too much of their resources on effects that they could otherwise use on better dialog, story, map design, gameplay, etc.

It's not only the waste of resources. It also just looks really dumb.
This video (from an even more grumpy guy) portrays what I mean really well:
(click to show/hide)

This all just comes down to personal taste though.
I understand why people want blow up buildings and set fire to everything in games. It is fun.
It just quickly becomes too much in my mind.

Hehe, yea I get you... it comes down to taste, you're right. Was just a quick idea anyway. I'm fine this way or the other.

I kinda agree... some games overdo it so you're practically blind for a longer period of time which sucks. I remember that from Rust, also Life is Feudal went pretty dark which resulted in everybody turning up the gamma so the game looked like shit at all times :D

If you're going for very dark, it should only be for a brief amount of time. No longer than half a minute maybe...

The night time would just act as a timer for battles. 30 seconds would be plenty- more than enough time for the fighting to have to stop and people can regroup or run away.  Not every battle has to be fought to the last man.

Plus it could give you time for a bathroom break, or to heat up another pizza pop.

I guess you meant desaturated colours? That's a great idea, just make sure that light from fires makes them saturated again! ;-)
This is about being straight out retarded. Children see in slow motion like owls.
