Seriously, this is why old players leave the game, and new players get discouraged. The curve should be more flat and less of a right angle, like so:

New players are discouraged because they dont stand a single chance against macro feinting katana nerds which require 60+ fps to make them even visual.

And the fast leveling system actually was a good idea for them to gain loompoints faster and to get a good build easier.

Because before the XP/lvling update we had up to 3-4 level difference between the retiring level (31) and the level 34-35 (grand-)masters, now its 1-2 levels, only a few rare nerds reached level 38 so far, most are 36. So a STF character currently is actually worth to play with.
Maybe if Coronoa virus gets rid of 50 percent or more of the world population we can do without a pope and religion.

Now that you mention it, I wonder if they actually took any measures against spazzy feint whores in Bannerlord. Hopefully they did.

I hope not, or that they simply improve it to makes feints less spazzy but more useful.

I have nothing against lvl 35 requiring 8 mil total xp, or even the higher levels requiring cosmic amounts of xp. I only dislike the fact that once you finally get to 34, you have to spend at least twice the time without any progress at all. If you're aiming for 35, there are 34 levels to get, but only the last 3 or 4 are actually noticable. There's lots of unused potential in having 35 levels, but the game only uses the last few. I suggest making it so that the xp requirement is more evenly distributed across levels - that way you spend more time working towards the next level, rather than getting 34 and waiting forever for 35. It's natural that players like to be rewarded more frequently than not. The competitive aspect of the game wouldn't get hurt - you'd be able to use STF characters just the same. But you'd see less fully developed characters, and that's a good thing for various reasons: new players would stand a slightly better chance, low req weapons would be used more often, increasing the diversity of the gameplay, kuyak 2h heroes would be less of a thing, and so on. Levelling is fun, and the game doesn't have much of it - so "skip the fun" should be renamed to "skip the grind".

I don't know if they kept the same leveling curve as it was when retire was at lvl 31( it took the same amount of xp to get get to 31 from 30 as it did from lvl 1-30) if so the same should hold true 1-34 same xp as 34-35. I think some of the perks for lower levels might make it seem worse when they wear off as you level past it. But if you don't like the way it is now you would have hated it before. Personally I liked it better before when you had to spend more time as a peasant than you do now.

Or we could just ignore the system and just set exp gained to something stupid like 600x and put a level cap of like 40 so top tier stays competitive. Leave retirement age the same so you can farm out looms as the economy is fucked anyhow

Unless the experience of 37-38 has changed, the character is dead.
Or, back to 31lvl.

One of my favorite things used to be watching my terrible character develop into a bad one. Of course I'm terrible at the game so I still did bad but there was something about watching my character grow that I really liked.

Also the loom point reward for retiring at 37 is pure nonsense. Here's some math.

110,000,000 xp gives 5 lps.
24,000,000 xp gives 3 lps.
8,000,000 xp gives one lps.

Time for some more math. If you got 1 lp for every 8mil xp, you would get:

24,000,000/8,000,000 = 3, which is the same as the current reward. Pretty reasonable.
110,000,000/8,000,000 = 13.75, or ~ 14.

This is the tough part.
14 - 5 = ???

Thanks to my calculator I can solve this. It's 9.

So, we get 9 less lp's than we should under a "reasonable" system. IT ALL ADDS UP. Or doesn't. In any case, current system is kind of broken.
