Previous one was chicago, this one is in Illinois as well, but I'm considering to move it to Texas. First i wanna see if the server works, though
don't like to complain, but seems like the previous server/location was much better/stable at least for me in Texas. The past 1-2 years when I ran any trace routes to the Chicago server there is constant packet loss around 3-4 hops before the nfoservers. usually whatever exchange that timewarner tees off with which I can't remember the name no though (might be telia.net).
I get around 40-60 ping now which is by no means bad, but when there is constant packet jumps to 100 every so often it starts doing crazy things with warband versus just having a consistent ping 60-100 ping. I don't know if the actual server machine has changed, but lag has been much more apparent the past year along with weird anomalies like missing animations because either the server can't keep up with it or maybe people with shit ass computers with slow response times causes havoc as well with game code.
1.5-2 years ago these problems were much less apparent on my lower end computer running even at 4k compared to 1440p now that I run at 150 fps (4790k cpu 980). My ping back 1-2 years ago was a stable 35-40 and the server population was much bigger with much less weird lag response times wasn't as big of a deal as it has been. Maybe this is also due to the fact the servers aren't being rebooted as often.
Love the game and the effort put into it and want to contribute in anyway.
hope the move makes things better for this and possible M:BG servers in the future.
