Launching cRPG makes download speed +3?
« on: April 16, 2016, 07:24:48 pm »

So I just now have realised that starting cRPG through the launcher boosts my download speed right up.

Got a 50kb connection, so average dl speed is 5-7mbps.

Now that cRPG is launching, my download speed shoots up to 25, I even peaked at 32mbps just now.

Technically that should not even work, since as I said I got a 50kbit connection.

Anyone got an explanation?
Did not wanna post in the technical problems since this is technical, but no problem. Quite the opposite :D

Your ISP detects that you are running a game and gives you some bandwidth. Otherwise your downloads are throttled.

Could also be your router.

If this doesn't happen with other games etc, it could be that the launcher overrides some really shitty default settings in your operating system.

I considered that, but then again, as I said, I have a 50kbit connection.
That is roughly about 6,5mbps download or so.

So my usual downloads are perfectly fine. It just seems that while starting cRPG my ISP apparently thinks it is a good idea and rewards me with an additional 300kbit.

chadz has obviously bribed your ISP.
50kbit though? That's some old time modem speed.

Does the boost happen before you join any servers? Does it last?

Wow sorry, forgot one k there.

50000kbit

And I just noticed it does not always do that. Only occasionally. And only when in the process of starting cRPG.

Really weird :D

Close enough.

I guess it's caused by your ISP trying to decide whether you are only running some worthless crap that doesn't deserve bandwidth or not. cRPG manages to confuse them but only for a bit.

Back when I had dial-up I would have to do something like this to get my connection out of a pause/stutter session. I had to start up, of all things, AOL instant messenger to get things moving again lol
You think you're pretty smart with your dago mustache and your greasy hair.

isnt 50000kbps = 50mbps ?
Yes, but I was too lazy to use proper proper capitalisation and shit, so again :D

(In no specific order and pretty random)

50000 KBit = 50 MBit

50 MBit =/= 50 MByte

50 MByte = 390.625 KiBit

So
50000 KBit = 48.828125 MiBit
48.828125 MiBit = 6.103515625 MiByte which should be my average download speed, which it is.
(Though I am not sure whether download speeds are shown in MByte or MiByte, but the different should not be that big)
