Yet another "help me build a pc" thread

So I'm no stranger to buying my own pc parts, although admittedly I'm a bit out of the loop having not upgraded anything for several years now. Additionally, this time I am building a pc for work, not personal use/gaming. It needs to be able to run graphically-intensive programs smoothly, but I am not worried about maxing out fps while playing the latest AAA games. Not sure if a good gaming graphics card also makes a good "business" gpu, but I can only assume so since the more powerful it is, the better at everything it should be. Anyways, here is the current build I have, any criticism/suggestions are more than welcome. Also note that I am not looking for the usual "pimped out gaming rig" look, so I've got to stick to generic-looking stuff.

I'd also get more memory, a faster cpu but you might have to go to a lga1155 instead of 1150 motherboard to do that.

Some people might say to get a SSD too. I haven't done it yet but people love it.

Thanks for the info. SSD's are great, and more RAM is always nice, but this is primarily a work computer, it won't be doing too much crazy stuff. And from what I saw you can no longer buy a new copy of windows 7, unfortunately. Being that this is a work computer, I can't go about getting anything through "less-than-legal means" either.

If you're going to use it for work, then an SSD is a definite must. All of your software is going to load and work much faster. Much more important for that than for games. Hell, it surprises me that people even consider PCs without SSDs nowadays.

Definitely get an SSD as your main HD. They are pretty cheap now and days, probably find a 256gb for $75-$100.

You might also want to look into Xeon processors since your building a workstation. You can sometimes find some good deals on the web.

Gonna add to the SSD hype. It's even more important for work.

As for the "graphically-intensive programs" you're talking about, we're gonna need a few more details. Many professional editing software pieces require specific cards to use GPU acceleration. Some applications need a lot of memory, some don't. There's no way to make an informed choice with the amount of information you have there.

In addition many of these graphic intensive applications don't use the newer CUDA cores on the newer NVIDIA graphics cards so maybe going for a FirePro would be a better option.

The software is called ARAS 360 HD/FARO HD and is accident reconstruction animation software. It runs fairly well on my old workstation until I import 3D terrain data from google, because then an otherwise flat plane now has maybe 500 points of elevation data. It seems to constantly have to re-render it every time I make any sort of adjustment to the animation, making each change painfully slow.

Haha, thanks, I guess. Luckily this is a very small portion of it that I use only rarely, as I think I might go insane using this software all the time. If it ran well, that might help make it a little less frustrating at least.

Seems that software doesn't really require specific stuff like memory for video encoding and so on.

Oh shit, idk how I missed that thread... thanks a ton. Looks like while it is far from the best option this card should still do the trick, so I think I'm gonna just order what I got since it's already been approved by my boss. Thanks everyone for your input.
