What should I play: Risen or Gothic?

After reading a lot of the recommended Re:Monster-manga (thanks mate), I somehow got really hungry again for some gothic-like games.
I really loved Gothic1&2 and also liked Risen, but I´m undecided what game to pick now, so I could use some advice here

Gothic3? Gothic4? Risen2? Risen? Or are there other gothic-like games I don´t know about?

Gothic, do not play Risen!

Gothic 3 has a really annoying combat system, but the world is beautiful.

Start with Gothic 2. Still holds up pretty well, first game has archaic combat interface and lost a bit of its original appeal. Risen is a bit like first Gothic but not quite as good up to 2/3 of the game. Rest is pure bullshit, especially Nintendo style boss fight at the end. Risen 2 and 3 are different games.

Gothic 3 is a great game, but also rough around the edges. Big like The Elder Scrolls series but as you progress you'll notice how game world and story are lacking detail. They spend most of their time on Myrtana. Gothic 3 is comparable with Witcher 3 when it comes to overall feel of adventure.

Pains me to admit (being huge fan of Gothic series) but Dark Souls is better.

Risen for combat and atmosphere.
Gothic for openworld experience.
Don't bother with Risen 2.

Adds a 7th chapter and more difficulty.

Gothic 3 is cool, he has pretty big open world, lots of quests, interesting faction system etc. The pros are annoying fight system, a lot of bullshits, some buggs, but with mods it should be ok, and there is a lot of places where u are stuck and don't know where to go (especially in nordmar region), but the world is really great. Don't even start with "gothic 4" arcania, because u gonna destroy your immersion from gothic 1 and 2, so i recommend playing only gothic 3 ;)

First Risen is quite good, has that Gothic feel and experience. The rest are awful.
