I've never seen any star wars movies and now due to all those people going full crazy cuz of that new star wars movie I think I gotta finally watch them! The thing is just, how do I start? Before watching movies Im allways checking out in what order I should watch them (Hell I didn't even know there is Episode I n'stuff, I would have imo started if I knew that from the beginning :O ). So I asked google and some websites recommended starting with the 4th movie and then watch till the end and then continue from I - III. The other said some weirdass bs I can't remember now, but I think they said I should skip some movies... The other told me to go for the normal order, like I - VI. Errrrrrrm, wut? I've really absolutely no idea what's going on there, but that there are different orders to watch it is REALLY suprising :O I mean like is it like in Hangover I-III that u see the same retards doing the same things at different locations?

I really need help here!! Oh and I know the excitement about that new movie is big, but are they really that good? That weirdass space pew pew shit is actually not really my branch, but I guess I gotta do it :D

I actually know a few people in the same boat as you. One person watched starting at episode 1 (which many people can agree isn't all that great) and they kinda stopped watching halfway through the 2nd since it isn't much better. In order to watch 6 movies of a series you really need to start off strong otherwise you definitely run the risk of thinking "is the payoff really worth sitting through 3 2.5hr movies?" Another couple people started at episode 4 and continued on to watch 5 (4+5 are often regarded as the best two) and are stoked to keep going even knowing that 6 isn't as good as the first two (but still pretty great). Those two aren't sure if they want to even bother watching 1-3 since it might "ruin" the experience for them, but I'd strongly recommend starting at 4 and watching up through 6 and then making that decision for yourself. More likely than not you will end up with a mindset similar to plenty of other people where they accept them as the cannon story for what happens prior to episodes 4-6, and yet have no desire to really ever watch them again since they don't hold too well on their own (despite being really flashy with cool cgi scenes and stuff).

Tl;dr: Watch episodes 4-6. If you really like them, then go back to 1-3 knowing that they probably can't recapture the magic of the originals, but will still offer their own additions of a few decent characters, cool effects and newer spaceship/weapon/technology designs and such (since honestly half the reason to watch star wars is just to be immersed in that cool universe with technology both far superior and inferior to our own... I mean they've got hyper-lightspeed travel and yet can't transfer any sort of wireless data and they only have shitty low-res crt tvs).

Watch from episode 1 to episode 6. That way the timeline makes sense. Easy. People say 1-3 suck but here's some new news: 4-6 aren't that good anymore either in the year of our lord 2015, they're really showing their age.

Say what you will about each individual movie in comparison with the rest, but they are all enjoyable movies on their own and are well worth watching at least once. Fans will often say that "episodes 1-3 suck" but really that is merely in comparison with the originals, and episodes 1-3 are pretty good movies on their own. Not necessarily worth watching again and again, but I'd still recommend seeing them at least once. Episodes 4-6 tell more of a fun sci-fantasy (not necessarily sci-fi) tale of adventure while episodes 1-3 tell a bit of a slower paced tale of the politics/diplomacy of a galaxy in a massive civil war with clips of epic battles thrown in here and there to spicen things up a bit. Pick whichever seems more intriguing to you and start with that trilogy in my opinion. What Havelle recommended sounds pretty interesting, but I'm not necessarily sure I'd want to watch these movies in that order on my very first viewing. It would be an interesting experience if I could somehow erase my previous star wars memories before trying it in that order to have a more educated opinion on it, but obviously that isn't exactly feasible.

Just do yourself a favor and watch episode 4, it's not even a long movie and it'll be over before you make up your mind with all this unnecessary debating going on. If you enjoyed it, keep going. If not, stop before you invest too much of your time. Plenty of people say that episode 5 is better, but if you really didn't care for episode 4 at all then it probably won't suddenly make you a huge fanboy.

As someone who magically avoided watching Star Wars for years too, I watched them 4 to 6 and then 1 to 3. That is how they were released and written, so that is how most people watched them, so it can't be a terrible way to experience Star Wars. Still, watching the other way around gives you a much neater story arc and prevents you having to shuffle it all around in your head, so I would personally recommend that. One thing to keep in mind though is that the special effects and action scenes in general of the old trilogy do not hold up at all. So going from the neat action of the third movie straight into the bumbling awkwardness of the first can be a pretty deflating experience.

So... Are they actually worth being watched? Doesnt really sound like tbh
I personally thought the movies ranged from a little good to mostly bad, with the third episode being my high point, but they are worth watching for their enormous cultural relevance. As Jona said, if you are unsure whether you are going to watch them all, watch 4. It does a much better job at introducing the universe and telling a story than 1.

Just watch them already!

Just keep this in mind:
They have aged,
Their target audience(imo) is the mental age of 8-14.

Just keep these things in mind:
It is an Epic Space Opera, it isn't star trek light or some techno-babble philosophic bs.
It is more like a folk-tale(maybe even greek epic) set in a sci-fi setting.
These, the core things, actually never age imo.

They say new movie is a lot like first Star Wars (A New Hope). That movie was released in 1977, some twenty years before you were born. Star Wars was the shit back then, now is a bit dated. So if you want to feel a bit of what people felt almost 40 years ago, then just watch newest movie. It's probably not that groundbreaking but if it mimics original a little little bit, it should be more than fine consider that most modern movies that come out of Hollywood are utter crap.

As for prequels, they weren't that bad. Especially third (Revenge of the Sith). My main issue with prequels, apart from bland and badly executed story is character cast. Anakins role was given to some schmuck no one remembers today. Some scenes in those movies are very boring to watch, for me scene when they go to investigate clones takes the cake (think it was Attack of the Clones).

After all these years, standout thing about Star Wars for me is performance of Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan Kenobi). Apart from that, Star Wars movies are meant for children but those specific parts still hold some value for me personally.

At some point George Lucas figured out that franchise merchandise sell better than movie tickets, so he added certain toy like characters to series. Like Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks.

The new movie is the first three movies condensed into one, with all the same plot elements. And feminized, with the super-awesome-unexplainably-epic-princess-warrior.

To be fair I think Obi-Wan Kenobi in general is the best part of the films. Ewan McGregor did about as well as any actor could hope to do amidst such awful cohorts. I think he did a good job. So give some credit to him too.

No, your English seems spot on. When do they wirelessly transfer data in the movies? Other than being able to communicate across the stars via hologram and use headsets to communicate to nearby spaceships, they never seem to be able to send any sort of emails or texts or anything.

Ah, now I get it. Yeah, they only can send holographic messages, but no "data" in sense of big "files". Thats true then :)

Watch them 4-6 1-3 7

Cos that's the right way to do it. I mean hell if you can get an OG copy without the stupid addons that Lucas made over the past 30 years watch them first.

My order of quality - 5, 6, 4, 7, 3, 1, 2.
