I think the wording you are looking for is "shittalk" or maybe "flaming", not "hate speech".

I don't have a pleasant report in that regard either. Ingame, sometimes I am really calm as I am supposed to be. Other times I flame hard mostly at my old friendchers.

When the person I am flaming at takes it calmly and maturely, I not only stop but also develop a sense of respect for the person in question. You, Cassi, have been that person numerous times. I mean you are supposed to be good at handling targeted profanity. Why the breakdown now?

Oh I've been served pretty much every insult I can think of. And honestly i don't mind...

Spamming the chat with insults however or picking on single (or new!) Players, which both eventually leads to other rulebreaking behaviour, is punishable.

Some time ago i proposed a more strict ingame language rule enforcement in suggestion corner, as a measure to reduce overall missbehavior like tk sprees and bullying rampages - the next thing i heared was, that NA admins went on an uncontrollable ban-spree in an (propably exemplary) attempt to readjust ingame language usage - naturally NA folks are way eloquent, precise and more hard hitting in their insulting culture in their mother language. This led to perception of being oppressed by admins in NA playership (possibly reinforced by some other cultural problematics which better be not mentioned here), leading to insane war against admins and consequently to resistance to any regulation attempts ...

My point is, that its not possible to effectively control language and ingame behavior through rule enforcement by admins or any other direct regulation mechanisms. It will always lead to perception of oppression (rightfully?) by players. It is simply the wrong way for dealing with the  "Holiday mindsets" (thats what i call the absence of cooperative and social responsible behavior of people in internet games, as for the similarity of behavior of tourists in foreign countries).

Another question would be, IF there should be a place where people can live out these kinds of inferior complexes at all, or if MMO's are indeed the right place for it - leading to a evaluation basis for the question on how to deal with it.

I'm no expert, but I think cyber bullying is probably a very real and threatening thing to youth, particularly middle-school-age kids who internalize insults a lot worse than adults.

But we're all (young) adults here, so unless someone is making some real ad hominem attacks or threats, then there's nothing that should be done about saying, "Yo your clan is trash fucking polearm my old friends".

1. You TK'd someone? Write an essay about 'Why it is important to keep the game fun for everyone', you're the worst kind of scum just doing what you want because you're on the internet.

2. You told someone ingame that you hope their mum dies of cancer? Right on brother! Those pussies in the server should just ignore it if they dont like it!

cRPG
TK is killing the game. Insult are making this game better.

I mean would you still play this game if it wasnt for hardrada raging and Xesta being butthurt (cuz he s bad)? It keeps us occupied to read the "discussion" in the chat while dead on EU1 and as most of "discussion" is rage, a clean chat would just kill the chat.

Two exceptions tho, we should ban people insulting french and people downvoting on forum, it really hirts my feelings.

To be fair Cassi, insults disturb other people's gameplay much less than what the average Krems member does.
For all the non-believers, look no further than this thread for proof that while strat battles are won/lost in NA3/EU3, strat wars are won and lost on the forums.

I kinda like Xesta cause he's a troll. Hardrada is just a giant tool, and I'm not too fond of complete idiots.

I don't really care much about it myself, unless it's way overboard. You get quite thick skin by being a good HA or HX...

There's a mute function for everyone, use it if it's just a couple of silly, empty insults.
I voted Gurnisson cause of his fucking bendy pike, I swear noone can roflcopter stab like he can.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

i'm sure it's already been said here, but... why don't you just mute them yourself? it's not enough that you don't see their bs anymore, you need to know that nobody else on the server can see it either? that gets into some weird territory where one person decides what all other persons should or should not be experiencing. it's better left to every individual how they want to be a part of the community or not.

someone's a shithead, mute em. everyones a shithead, mute chat. easy peasy.
