NVIDIA GeForce GT330 - GPU
6GB DDR3 - RAM
Intel i7(870) - CPU

GPU, I think.

RAM is fine (at least to my standards), CPU should be just fine, if you want to upgrade you need another motherboard.

What Power Supply you got? Check the power consumption (TDP) of modern cards, yours got 75, high tier modern cards need 2x or 3x more.

There are cards like the 750 Ti though, that got decent performance (again, to my standards, it is average at best) for lower resolutions, and 80W TDP.

It is a card I've been thinking about slapping into this old PC of mine for an example.

Right now, I should have 360 wat with my e. supply so upgrading my source should not be a concern. I still another questions Do any of the new GPUs(particularly NVidia with DX11 support) require me to switch motherboard?

btw would you say NVidia cards are superior?

Nah, these modern cards are still PCI-E, they will fit, as long as your case has enough room.

No need to change motherboard, only if you want a newer processor.

I don't understand, you have a 360W power supply? If so, upgrading to a stronger card will pretty much make your PC not start.
A decent modern card eats twice as much power as yours right now. Even more perhaps

If you don't want to change to a bigger power supply, you might want to try a 750ti, as it is the strongest card with such low power requirements, it is only 5W more than yours, and is much better.

Just don't expect it to play newest games on ultra. That is the compromise.

And in my opinion yes, NVIDIA is better in the long-run. AMD's have their own advantages but the disadvantages are just too many.
Don't take it wrong though, NVIDIA has just as much shit going on, just in different areas. It may not eat that much power or be very hot, but faults and driver issues are all over the place.

That really depends on how much you want to spend. Basicly aim for the best performance/price ratio. Also your PSU might be an issue if you aim for high end GPU.
So the question is what is your budget and screen resolution?

Okay, now I don't understand. Did you perhaps mean the power of my sockets? (the ones in the wall) Or is the number you provided(75) not in watts? Sorry, you have to clarify everything for me. My budget is undecided my screen res. is 1080p.
EDIT: It says on it that max is 450 and peak 500 ???

He said 750ti, the graphics card, not 75W?

Yes, the card you currently have uses 75 watts, but I want to know the capacity and type of your PSU, Power Supply Unit

This motherfucker right here

Your wall sockets aren't important, this thing converts that electricity in your PC to power up parts.

If it can't handle a newer card, you won't be able to turn it on (it could also blow up and fry all of your parts if low quality), that's why I want to know.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

360 watt(thats more than 3x times my current card and you said that new cards would take that much)

Don't forget that everything in your computer needs power.

Your Cpu needs about 87W, the GPU needs 75, don't forget your RAM, Drives, DVD and all that stuff.

A PSU also needs some headroom, especially if it is some cheaper brand, making it work on full capacity (which is often lower than advertised), could end up with a destroyed power supply overworking itself, and doing damage to everything.

Your PSU is already working with the bare minimum headroom it can get, Imagine what will happen if you change your 75W graphics card to a 150W one, almost half of your advertised power capacity.. You could end up with a smoking computer
(or just one that doesn't even start), and you don't want that.

What Brand is your Power Supply by the way?

If you wish to upgrade to a great card, you must get a new, quality power supply (at least 80% 'bronze' efficiency), in the 500-550W range at least.

If you don't want to do that, I can still put my vote to this thing, as it only eats a bit more with these overclocked versions of the card.

The normal 750ti only uses 65W, for an example. Amazing for what it is in my opinion.

This is what the vanilla one looks like, very deceptive. No 970 but it does the job.

Any brand could work, I have no experience on that sadly.

Unless a newer competitor came out, this is the perfect solution for problems like these
(Need new GPU, but not enough power capacity, still want more performance and DX10-11 features with the same power consumption)

My budget is undecided

I think you can get a new Mobo, psu, gpu, cpu and ram for around 450€ (Edit. maybe 500€) if your budget can handle it.- then you will have a far better base for future upgrades.

Shame I already gave away my GTX 760 CU2 OC to my mate, otherwise I would have been able to send it to you :(

Thanks, guys! I am going to think on it. I won't have access to my PC for over a month now, so I will have plenty of time. Might even get a new one all together, maybe use some parts from this one.

If you have the cash for it, building a new one would be the best option.

More of everything, easier to build upon   :)
