Someone recently played me that viral clip from the liberal hack's Aaron Sorkin's new show The Newsroom where the guy lists off stats and other countries saying shit like "Belgium has Freedom. France has freedom.." etc etc trying to deny American exceptionalism.
All I kept saying back to her while obnoxiously talking over the clip while I chugged cheap boxed wine was "wow one country after another that America spent billions of fucking dollars and millions of men liberating from the fucking chocolate chip cookies and then giving endless credit loans and business cooperation to rebuild the completely destroyed economies of the entire fucking continent (except the poor souls that were reconquered by unquestionably evil communists)
I mean seriously that's what it is. The greatest accomplishment of Europeans as a people in the past hundred years was the fucking Third Reich. America single-handedly rescuing and rebuilding the entirety of Western Europe, as much as we could up to Western Germany (the now thriving heart of the continent) isn't even in the Top Ten of reasons why America is the greatest country in human civilization's history.
I'm as cynical of a patriot as there is, distrust both the government and corporations, think obese people are disgusting, american sports are stupid, guns should be extremely regulated, Christianity is a cancer, and so forth. And even I cannot deny that America is something special.
To quote Jesus himself, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden." Sounds like freedom, hope, and liberty. Sounds like these United States of America.
