Yesterday i decided that i finally needed a upgrade for my RAM. upgrade from one 4gb stick to two 4gb sticks

so i went to Best Buy, bought some of dis
http://www.pny.com/8GB-Kit-PC3-10666-1333MHz-DDR3-Desktop-DIMMs?sku=MD8192KD3-1333

for my
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3967#ov

came home and popped dat shit in, turned on my pc. starts to boot up, goes into POST then the monitor goes to sleep, saying that i dont have my DVI cable plugged in (i do)

i tested both sticks alone And only one worked fine, (made it past post, and got me into windows, without monitor falling asleep)

any suggestions? or should i notch it up to a faulty product and try to get a refund or something

If you do get both sticks to work, grab memtest86 and run that for a few hours.

Not a huge fan of PNY RAM, prefer G.SKILL.  Reliable + lifetime warranty in case of FUBAR

This. Perhaps your mobo is not capable of adressing 8gb of ram in one... uh, whatever it's called. Had that happen to me.

Yeah that would make sense if he had dual channel

He only has two slots though, so maybe the board can't handle it for some reason.

Say his motherboard can only handle 4 gb of ram.. would putting 8 gb of ram really overload it and give him the issues he's had? Would think it'd just not use the other 4 gb. But if that were the case then he most likely wouldn't be able to put a 4gb stick in one slot, it'd have to be 2 2gb sticks.

I think its a bad ram stick. Have you done memtest yet on the new one?

This. I am wondering why everyone is talking about memtest.
If those are new sticks and one isn't working on it's own... I'd be over in the shop the same day and requesting a replacement or my money back.
When west germany annexed east germany, nobody moved a finger too.

In that case he should try with the faulty stick alone.
