As far as the screen refreshing and people disappearing I have personally never experienced that.

Anyway, I played and still play this one game known by the name of Darkest Hour: Europe 44 - 45. A mod for Red Orchestra 1, this game has had about 55 - 64 players of a community. Yes, THAT little. It has only 1 server running. Every month there are people like you posting threads about how it's gonna die, it never died. I'm playing this for 4 fucking years now and we still have an average of 60 players as we did 4 years ago.

Not even bannerlord is gonna kill this, or life is feudal. Yes some players might leave, they come back and repeat.
