Heavy weapons can stun light shields with held strikes. The most recent patch introduced many good heavy weapons, so you're more likely to get stunned for a while.

Yeah, my 3kg shield got stunned by a Spathion or something yesterday. I swear there is a bug where shields act like half their weight when it comes to block stun

3 weight is on the low end for weight on a shield, it's not that surprising with more heavy weapons and 2h around.

Some helpful general info:

Weapon stuns

Attacker:

  • Blunt weapons are better at stunning.
  • 2h > Pole > 1h for inflicting stuns.
  • Overheads ignore attacker's item weight(?), though the above still applies.
  • Side swings with over 3 weight weapon > Overheads == Side swings with 3 weight weapon > Side swings with under 3 weight weapon
  • Thrusts = 0 stun chance
  • Any holds 0.2 seconds or above can potentially stun, better holds have a better stun chance (best 0.5-0.6)
  • Damage is irrelevant for stunning.

Defender:

  • Wider, heavier shields have a better chance of resisting stuns, height has no effect.
  • Heavier, slower weapons have a better chance of resisting stuns, length has no effect.
  • Polearm > 2h > 1h for resisting stuns
  • Defender's character attributes/skills are irrelevant beyond reducing damage via speed bonus manipulation.
  • Stuns last 0.52 seconds

Crushthrough

Attacker:

  • More damaging strikes are better at crushing through, so stuff like PS/WPF/speed bonus/hold bonuses matter.
  • Heavier weapons are better at crushing through.
  • Attacker STR(except that tiny str/5 damage boost), weapon length, weapon speed are irrelevant.

Defender:

  • Defender's character attributes/skills are irrelevant beyond reducing damage via speed bonus manipulation.
  • Heavier shields/weapons are better at resisting crushthrough.
  • Polearms/2hs get a bonus for resisting crushthrough. (same)

This "stun-shield" exists before the revivalpatch, right?
If yes: now all builds are buffed. Why shields are not buffed to resist like before of patch? I know that this patch wants to equilibrate all classes, but in this case 2h > all (fast and strong).
In your post, you hightlight the abyss between 1h and 2h. Please review this shieldstun because its very unbalanced. Thanks!

Wider, heavier shields have a better chance of resisting stuns, height has no effect.

Thanks Banks, this is the first complete description of block stun I've seen.

I've found that 3kg shields result in near nonstop block stuns, whereas a 3kg weapon (say Highland Claymore) won't be stunned except by heavy blunt weapons. The light shields already pay a severe penalty in durability and projectile coverage, so the susceptibility to block stuns is just insult to injury.

It's interesting that shield width has an effect. As if round shields weren't already the golden children of the shield line (since they are the only shields that seem to block projectiles from even slightly to the side), it turns out they are the best for mitigating block stun also. I'd like to see the kite/heater shields be given some kind of non-stat advantage over round shields (besides the mounted forcefield, which is stupid and should be removed anyway); increased reach on neutral and offensive nudges would make the most sense, given that the animation implies that the shield height affects reach (it doesn't).

Paul gave us some code (that may possibly be a little dated) a few days ago. I'm still having trouble believing that weight doesn't affect stun chance for overheads, since I'm confident a held steel pick overhead will stun another 1hander vs. when I use a liuyedao. Shields and 1h do get the shaft quite a bit.

It is possible that 2h is faster than the block of shield? (i use elite cav +3, 103 speed and i have 7 in shield).
