i think it's a revival for people that already play the game, or used to. not so much new people who never heard of it or m&b. and the mod doesn't really become new player friendly with stat changes, the skill level of everyone already playing is the real barrier of entry for anyone without the patience to get through it and get better themselves.
but anyway, not saying it's pointless necessarily, just wouldn't expect some huge influx suddenly cause of a patch mostly catering to old bored timers. i just feel like if you're into this sorta thing, you probably would have already found it by now. if you have to be convinced to check it out, you're not gonna be into it enough to stay.
