Topdown games are the worst. Ewww. This isn't the 80s-early 90s anymore. Almost as bad design-wise as having cel shaded graphics /cartoon graphics.

I never once used 'tactical view' cos that topdown looks awful, just play it over-the-shoulder like it was meant to be played. That zoom-out shit isnt even available on the xbox version and there's a good reason for that (the same reason it starts you in over-the-shoulder as default).

I tried to play through this game last year, seriously I really tried but couldn't.

It was so dull and boring, filled with cliche after cliche. It couldn't keep up my interest, so I left it alone about 50% of the story.

Seriously, it felt like a frankenstein monster stitched together from all kinds of fantasy. 0 originhahaality.


Now, thinking back I have to say my expectations were set insanely high, playing the witcher 2 through before touching this game, I just looked up if there are any good RPG-s around, that's what I saw suggested on some forum threads. Disappointment ensured.

Dragon Age Origins is currently available for free at Origin store. Never played it but whatevs.

Is it worth my time to click the button and download it?

Yes. There are some original and very well written quests, and the combat system is great - it reminds me of Baldur's Gate in terms of complexity. At least if you are playing as mage, as I did.

I personally like DA:O way better than Witcher 2. The combat in W2 doesn't hold a candle to DA:O. Yes, many things are a little bit cliché in DA (although some are not), but at least it's fun to play it.

I love DA:O. I think I've completed it 4-5 times now and restarted it multiple other times. Hoping Inquisition isn't a fail like DA2.

DA:O has proper RPG combat and it's party based RPG. Witcher 2 has good story, character development, nice graphics and it's an interesting game but combat system is abysmal and downright boring. If we compare combat, DA:O is superior RPG and fits perfectly what was once considered a proper cRPG. Witcher is action oriented, like Gothic games. Hard to compare them, really.

If you think DA:O is bad, you obviously haven't tried DA2. Also I've seen you, Molly, in DA3 topic hyping the game. Let me tell you, that game is going to be just like DA2 and nowhere near the quality of DA:O. This is the reason why:

DAO was great. Couldn't replay it because of some gay design choices, like the Fade part which was the gayest shit ever, and then that dwarven underground place which, although fine the first time around, would have been a drag to play a second time.
