Its because the board is essentially 4chan with swords.  Every single comment should be taken with a grain (more like several tons) of cynicism.

Game concepts cannot be patented, and that is good, because otherwise the one and only shooter we'd be playing would be Wolfenstein and the only RTS would be Dune.. or probably not even that.

It's undeniable that our game is inspired by Warbands gameplay, just like WotR is. And there's nothing wrong with that. Every piece of art is created, every line of code is typed by us, and the game feels very different. What we are doing is in no way illegal, and also in no way immoral.

lombardsoup, I'm not really understanding where you're going with this :wink:
I mean, we are not even OFFERING you the option to pay for it right now.

You don't even have to defend yourself; There is nothing wrong with NOT wanting to buy M:BG. It just shows us that we have to do better, and I am sure that within a year we have created something that you can't resist buying :wink:

And if not, we won't hold it against you. We'll hold it against ourselves.

Well chadz,

Part of me truly does want to believe this is completely legitimate and will be finished.  But then I look at the realities of the internet, and cringe knowing I've been successfully duped by other communities touting similar projects.  I guess I have no choice but to wait and see?

I believe many of those that invested or donated did so as a sort of compensation for all the good time they had playing cRPG. At least I did, and I still think I should give more. Trusting the donkey crew with a whole new videogame is another issue. But personally I know they know what the end product should be like. Which is already a great advantage over a huge majority of the competition. Their creativity was not mutilated by game design courses, they aren't restricted by a producer. While this may not warrant a commercially successful release, I have good reasons to believe I will like the game when it comes out.

I totally understand if people were not in a position to give away $60 (that's the way I looked at it).  But for me it wasn't so much an investment, as it was a hand-out to try and get a great game developed.  I justified it by the amount of hours I've put into c-rpg (which is likely rivaling the amount of hours I put into counter-strike from 2000 to 2006) and it was a no brainer.  Even if the devs too our money and spent it on booze and hookers I would have been okay with it.  But even the small chance they could make an amazing game was enough for me to jump on board.
