THE anime thread

I barely seen any anime at all so hoping you can give me advice on which ones I would like.

I used to like dbz as a kid but childess/corny anime like dbz and naruto which is totally cliche and trys to be funny is a no no. I've yet to find any anime funny, must have a different sense of humour.

more serious, dark anime like death note is more my thing. I just started watching beserk which is also good. has an awesome dark art style but the quality of animation is bad. I seen the first ghost in the shell film, loved it, should I watch the anime or is it the same story?

I got into bleach because my housemates love it.  but it seemed to get a worse so I stopped watching after first 3 seasons. bleach is ok, mix of good and bad anime I described above. I did laugh a couple of times in ~50 episodes, but I still think I prefer anime that doesn't attempt humour. (oh and there was pretty major plot holes imo)

so based on my anime experience/opinions above, tell me what you think I would like! also say whether dub or sub. I been sticking to sub since most people say sub, but I do prefer dub if its decent, like berserk Im watching dub since its decent. anime can be quite slow pace and string out the story battles (one of the main things I dislike about it), so its nice to be able to alt tab and listen to what they are saying when its filler, flashback or some other lame way anime likes to draw out a story into 300 episodes :/

-Higurashi No Naku Koro ni. It's a mystery and gore themed school-life about several young teenagers/kids.  2 seasons. Both 24 episodes each.
It tend to be overall cute themed, But then the murders happen.

I do recommend it.

Here...I'd say the best animated cartoon I've followed was the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited series. However, I should note that I'm something of a comic book fan, so...

After that, I'd say Teen Titans, Invader Zim, Static Shock, Dexter's Laboratory, X-Men Evolution, The Boondocks, Archer, and The Batman.

I highly recommend South Park, since it's also a good look into American culture. At least this for this generation.

i would say stuff like naruto (sp?) one piece etc are the most popular

Like over here the idea is that cartoons/animated shows are only for kids and there's nothing for adults at all.

berserk might be written by a japanese guy but its really no diff to any european cartoon, doesn't feel like an anime (prolly part reason why I like it).

and you recomend me samurai shampoo (pun intended), even though I said I dont like anime humour :/. ent tried it but someone said it was a comedy.

beserk has some quite dark undertones all the way thru that i just dont remember from euro animations

That's bullshit on two counts.
One: Animes are mostly NOT for adults. Could you imagine your dad watching Berserk? And that's among the most 'acceptable': there are few (intended to be) funny comic reliefs, deformed faces, etc. OK, there are a few serious ones, like Ghost In The Shell, but mostly, they are made either for kids or teens. The fact that some 20-30somethings watch these doesn't make the shows any more mature.

Two: You obviously don't know what you're talking about. There are quite a few shows mainly for adults. Check out Mission Hill for example. Or Spawn.
