The combat is actually real fun as a melee class. But you gotta use a controller and play it like Mass Effect. It'd all prob feel real bad with a mouse and gamepad and focusing on the tactical map instead of just positioning yourself and blowing shit up with swings and abilities.

Its no Warband but there's a lot to like with reactive counter-attack abilities, managing guard, and real pleasant animations and weight to things that MMOs and many RPGs don't get right. It just isn't really a tactical RPG anymore that a mouse is good with like DA1 could be, but way more Witcher 2/Skyrim/Diablo hack and slashing.
My posting is like a katana folded 1000 times to perfection.. and the community is what keeps the edge sharp.. and bloody.  -  Me.

Im quessing its basically RPG MMO melee. Whats there to see? Press on enemy to attack, press some power to do some stronger swing.

Basic RPGMMO melee is "click and wait for whatever you are attacking to die"

Tseng: Used to the bitter taste of refusal, this only serves to reinforce his greatest life lession yet.
Cloud: And that is?
Tseng: Bitches, man.

The combat is pretty fun for a RPG.

I have to agree. And the fun thing is that I can enjoy the rather fast pace in close view but still need to use the tactical cam sometimes due to some heavy hitter and low hp. That mixture makes combat pretty good imho.
Especially surprised how good they made sword and board. Probably the less appealing play style in 1 and 2 seems to be now the most rewarding to me. And for me it runs really well and bugless considering the size of it. Although I am still more or less stuck in the Hinterlands... damn, that's huge. But it looks nice and you can get inside buildings w/o loading and stuff. I am pretty impressed by the game...

Friend of mine had this on his ps4 and I tried it out.. it was fun as fuck for combat. I was pleasantly surprised and glad to see it. Origins had meh combat and an awesome story. Dragon age 2 had.. meh for both but apparently the foundation for the story in Inquisition. So no clue on the story for Inquistion so far since I was just in haven and part of the hinterlands (I just got to the crossroads and that was it).

Definitely seems like they put a lot more effort into this one than 2. I was glad to see that.

Is there an option to disable those weird visual effects like "weapon attack traces" and "wind behind you" as you gallop? I was looking at a couple of videos and it looks nice, but I don't like those unnecessary effects.

2 completely different games honestly but the universe and lore is very close to each other...

Yeah it was a really good game for its time, I felt. I fucking loved Origins when I first played it, I can't even touch it anymore though. Just keep in mind it came out in 2009 and Inquisition just came out.

Yep. Really good when it came out, but whenever I've tried to replay it later on I haven't gotten further than 5 minutes in.

I'm in the middle of a DA:O replay and I still love it, although as in most RPGs there are too many blablablah downtimes.
