Can hoplite outreach a great lance with a light lance stab (with a shield) and be able to stop the horse before it hits them?

Without moving a little bit, I was barely able to stop great lance cav with a fauchard + shield, but there were quite a few times I was still couched. Light lance is +3 length, so that may help.

That was also before the change where glances now fail to rear horses. I would say that it gets outreached because of that change.

I used to duel a lot against great lances.
Using my long bardiche (141 length, no shield ofc), I managed to rear and kill the horse in about 50% against Grellenort who is very experienced at couching. I was using my movement actively though.

I would say, with a light lance and shield you should be able to do rear a great lance user in 100% cases unless you fail with your timing and/or footwork.

The trick to pulling this off is to use footwork so that you can dodge the heavy lance. They can outreach you if you don't have PERFECT timing, so the idea is to sidestep the couch and be on the far side of the attack.

Try practicing in duel server, make sure your attack is at max reach when you hit the cav!

With a light lance you can outreach everything except a pike. It all depends on three things: When you released your stab, when he released his(or couch in this case), and footwork.

If you want to give yourself more wiggle room, move backwards as you stab. Aim for the horse's head too, not the feet. Feet do more damage, chest hits the player, and head will rear the horse fastest. Dying is bad, so in the case they have such a long weapon just get the horse to stop.

Awesome, i hope you managed to destroy the inferior lancer with superior manly overheads. Dodging a lance and killing both horse and rider in one fell overhead makes me fall in love all over again.
I never make overheads against cav, that's the worst thing to do. If I can rear it, I stab. If I can't or my weapon is too short, I sidestep and slash the horse's legs.

By "the worst" I meant "the least effective". It sure looks great when you succeed, but it's very risky. And I prefer to kill cav, not to die to them.  :)

I rarely have the luxury of side-swings vs cav with my 0 athletics, but when they ride straight at me they never expect the overhead. I find it works pretty good.

But like all things i do in crpg, if everyone did it i'd stop doing it.

Lol Heskey, can you even be 1 shot by a couch?

2 IF and 37 body armour, it happens. But i fear cav the least out of all classes - all i lack for max damage is speed bonus, and cav always give me plenty.
You forgot to provide strength amount as that is also part of your hp :P

45 Str doesnt make me immune to being 1shot by a couch lance. Not sure if armour even affects couch damage but i go on the lighter side of medium. Agi-whores who go 9/30 katana can 2-shot me, so i wouldnt consider myself much of a tank.
You could use a no requirment shield or 1 req shield so u can just turn around with ur shield getting hit by the lance which would give u an extra like 30 armor depending on the shield and would give the lancer less momentum if u start walking away (with ur 0 ath u would be walking) from the couched lance
