Why the Longbow hate?

Alright so, first post here so go easy on me although i've lurked without linking my account for ages.

One thing I dont quite get is the hate against the Longbow. I tried using the Warbow for a bit and sure, its good, nothing wrong with it an does what it says it will.

Then I thought 'Well, as an Englishman, I should be using a longbow', so off I went and bought one.

Now I know its slower to use, the 'targetting' takes slower but I quite like that. Gives me more time to figure out the lead on target and really time the shot, as opposed to having to make a snap decision with a quicker bow. It seems more powerful, probably due to the fact its using peirce, and the arc is a bit more fiddly.

Have they changed it recently to make it acceptable to use or was all the moaning just because its a little trickier/slower to handle?

imo the longbow is a good balanced bow. Slower but hits harder and I like it myself.

It was ridiculously slow before the last patch. I tried using it and found that often my target had disappeared or was engaged in melee before I could actually loose the arrow.

I agree with this, its definetly not as good up close as the other bows, I suppose its a lot more stand-off'ish then some of the smaller bows. I guess thats a good counter to the increased damage, makes you vunerable.

They've made it actually worth using now. I think it's pretty balanced, having a lot of fun on my archer alt.
Will see how OP it gets when I reach 10 Power Draw

I wouldn't say it's overrated, it's a good bow by all means, but as with any bow it's how they are used on the battlefield and the Longbow got its fame because the English used it very well and secured some great victories against far larger armies.

You also forget about geography, composite bows were made with glues and such and had to be kept as dry as possible, they would have been useless in North Western europe due to the glue softening because of the climate, lots of rain and moisture, losing alot of its power, where as the Longbow was made of one solid piece of wood and required no glue so it would have no problem operating in wet weather and would last alot longer than a composite bow.

Thats odd, I only have 7PD myself, and 146wpf and theres no way I get one-shots on tin cans. Two or three body shots minimum usually.

Must've been some strange speed bonus or even 2 arrows at the same time?

I'm currently on 7 PD and I don't 1 shot with longbow.

I've got 6 PD, 160 wpf in archery, MW longbow, MW Bodkins, and I can't oneshot peasants in DTV.

probably something crazy in the game...I was one kicked yesterday.  I was walking in the siege tower another fella came up and, playing around, kicked me (I had head shot him a couple of times when we were vs. and he was letting me know it)...INSTA-KILL.  I was at full power with strange armor and 5 if.
