So I haven't played this game in 4 years, I left around the time strategus came out. I had a great idea to get my two friends to join me on my venture to get back into crpg. I wish I could say it has been a pleasant experience.

Up until this point the going had been tough, but we had been laughing all along the bumpy demoralizing path that is leveling up in crpg. The last round we played, about an hour ago, my friend and I were on team speak goofing around. He says he is going to play a round without anything on and try to dodge my horrendously bad cavalry charges. All of the sudden he gets kicked. So, as any concerned friend would do, I simply ask, "what??". Instead of getting a nice simple answer, I immediately get flamed. You would expect the experienced players of a small mod such as crpg to be helpful and kind to new players. Instead you have players like blackrose_veb telling you to go play pony island, and others telling you your 4 years old or something. One person did eventually tell me about leaching and why my friend was banned, and I thank you. This wasn't the first time I was surprised at how a noob's question was answered. I know there are trolls everywhere, but you would expect the die hard experienced crpgers to not continue along that trend.  I'm just here to tell those players that attitudes like that push away new players like my friends and I. Honestly I would not recommend this mod to people for that reason.

I hope those that this is addressed to grow up and realize a bigger picture about trying to keep a dwindling community like this growing.

Hey trgriffin,

Part of the server rules is to spawn with a weapon. There are players who do this to obtain money easily while not helping their team, and it's difficult to distinguish that a player didn't know or if he was indeed leeching. You can be on the server with a sheathed weapon and play your own way, such as drawing away enemy troops and keeping those cavalry occupied. Usually explaining the situation is enough.

It's unfortunate that there was a run-in with the more mean-spirited players, but typically the nicer ones are more quiet and don't speak out in in-game chat as much. There are always groups of people who like to have fun playing the game and I recommend looking up the Remnant or MB clan at http://forum.melee.org/faction-halls/ . Even some of the above are interesting people once you get to know them.

Just another couple of notes:
Same experience as you starting in. It's pretty tough getting thrown into the murky waters of c-rpg, wherein lie team-killing, heated comments, and rules which apply slightly less to players who are more well known(because they've been around longer). The experience that you've had has been there from the beginning, but here are some things I've learned from my experiences that could help you as well...

If someone team-kills you in the heat of battle(or team-wounds you) it's likely that they didn't actually mean to, so there's no need to get incredibly flustered(you lost your chance at becoming the star of the round or fighting with your buddy but there will always be more rounds). This will happen repeatedly(forever basically) as long as you play c-rpg :). However, if it is one singular person who continually does it, try to space yourself from them. If they follow you and continually do it, Press I to talk with admins(if any are on line) and take screenshots(print screen) automatically saves it to a file near your mount and blade warband w/ WSE2, and it shows the directory on your computer so you can find it.

For flamers, haters, ect. There's a lot of them. If someone doesn't answer your question, ask again later, or the forums are helpful. Additionally, you can press control M to mute chat and control U to un-mute, if there is too much flack going around(if you're playing with friends in teamspeak generally chat doesn't matter as much anyway)

"House Rules:" As San said, no spawning without weapons. Teamkilling is not an option, see above(I'd know, it's not really worth the time to revenge yourself either). Try not to be alone far away and last left alive because both admins and players will get irritated(even if you are actually fighting). Try not to "Leech"(stand in a corner and not do anything afk from the computer).

Regarding Admins: The motto most know around here(admins *cough* no fun ruin game ect. ect. ect.) However, there are good ones, San, Nightengale(or desire), Canary(however controversial everyone makes him out to be), Granpappy, and more(don't be offended if I didn't say your name you know it too). They're humans too. Humans make mistakes. Chat with them in game using I if they're around and they'll occasionally get back to you.

Last but not least, have fun(regardless of what people say). If you're not, and it turns out to be way more stressful than enjoyable, there's no need to come back every day and play through the fire and flames. Just enjoy the time with your friends. (hope I haven't made this sound way too intimidating, its not. I got used to it over time too and you can meet some pretty awesome people in this game.) Happy adventuring!

You can be on the server with a sheathed weapon and play your own way, such as drawing away enemy troops and keeping those cavalry occupied. Usually explaining the situation is enough.

And part of being an admin is to make sure everybody on the server understands and follows those rules.

I know there is this lovely proverb "Ignorantia legis non excusat", haven't read the rules? Your own problem!
But i think especially recently with the heavy influx of new players you always have to assume that the person you are talking to actually is one of those new guys.
And you cannot expect someone who just downloaded the mod to have visited the forums and read through all the rules.
Hell, when I started cRPG I did not even know about c-rpg.net so no way I could have found the forums and read the rules.

Instantly kicking a person without even explaining what the kick is for is just as bad as all the shittalking to new players.

No idea who it was, but in case that admin reads this: At least use your magical admin chat to let the person know what s/he is doing wrong, then either ask the person to rejoin or kick her/him or do whatever you please.

So often admins just kick people not giving a shit whether the person knows what is going on or not.

And if that person is a new player you can be sure that this person will not come back.

It's not always only the trashtalkers that drive the new players away.

So admins, please have some patience when it comes to enforcing rules. Let the devs kill the mod, don't try to help them with that quest.
For all the non-believers, look no further than this thread for proof that while strat battles are won/lost in NA3/EU3, strat wars are won and lost on the forums.

Better don't expect anything from anyone anywhere at any time in your life. I know it is hard, but you will never be disappointed and focus on the good things.
