Towns are nice, world map is cool, sneak archery is hilarious, the soundacting is funny(Skyrim is filled with schwarzeneggers), magic was fun to experiment with, crafting is cool, mods are awesome, the armors look nice, exploration is cool, some of the quests were quite awesome(like the I got drunk and married a buttugly Hagraven witch and my drinking buddy turned out to be a daedric prince who got me drunk so he could make fun of me), themesong is epic, some of the lore is rather engaging, combat is bad, but it aint that awful, dragonfights were quite cool(at the time and the first ones).

Risen is not a good game and you are alone in this. Either everyones wrong or you are right. Generally you are wrong. And whats with this fantrainthing again? Dont you really have any valid points yourself, beond that lame "fan" assumption?

witcher 2 comes close it has good story and graphics, but is not an open world (it's bilinear) and remarkably has even worse combat.

Sneak archery is hilarious? That is not a valid point. Sneak archery is sneak archery, you kill stuff from afar without being noticed. Voice acting is funny? Well woohoo, repeating 1 joke of ¨I was once an X like you but then I caught an Y to my Z¨ is sure funny after hearing it 20 times in 5 minute span. Exploration is cool? Exploration in fallout 3 was cool. But no, not there. Mods are no reason to call game good. We are talking about the game itself here. As far as I know, skyrim does not get shipped with mods.

That quest thingy you mentioned I admit sounds great. Too bad all I got was just metric fuckton of ¨Go there, kill X and bring me the Y I need.¨ I remember that in risen, there were quests like dealing drugs to people, tailing, robbing a blacksmith of his precious weapon, then trying to verbally beat as much gold out of him as you can. Or that quest where you blackmail a butcher by killing his cow and stuffing its dead head into the butchers bed godfather style.

That game had over 250 quests and maybe like 15 were fetch quests. And you actually had to use your wits to get the most of every quest you did.

Theme song is epic? Sorry mate, but that theme has nothing on music japanese soundtrack composers were dishing out last 15 years.

Actually, it was pretty original quest. It was there so you can immerse yourself into the point of view of novice who respected by nobody, to the point they give him such tasks as sweeping. It was there to reflect the hard life and constant labour novices have to endure to earn their meal and study lectures every day, and to teach them humility and patience. Honestly what did everyone expect when they joined monastery? That they will tell you ¨yeah cool, come here and we will teach you every spell of every circle¨  without asking anything in return?

There is a point. The point is that there are solid proofs of skyrim being most overrated and mediocre game of 2011 right before your eyes, but you suffer too much from fanboyphilis to see any reason. This game does not deserve the rating it gets, and once again, players thorough the world chose to favour over rated piece of shit over titles that have dedication behind their development.

Risen wasn't awful, what the fuck? It was better than Gothic 3, anyway, and a passable sequel to Gothic 2. Risen 2 shouldn't have happened. Even so, i found Gothic/Risen series to have much more replayability than Skyrim, due to having more actual freedom in the way you can interact with various chars. Also, factions.
