Skyrim shouldn't have a clear cut story presentation. Part of the open world element is that u have a wide range of things to do. If u just played through the main story and calling it shit ur missing 80% of the game. There r ppl that have played it for 40+ hours  just exploring and doing random shit without doing any quests. The only thing I could agree with is the combat, but I think they would've done a better job on that too if the game wasn't in a fantasy setting with magic and dragons etc.

And that would be me.

The only quests I did were the ones I have randomly stumbled into and found interesting or rewarding.. well not really rewarding in the end, but yeah.

I didn't even get to High Hrothgar in my own savegames, ever.

Two worlds series, risen, gothic series, assasins creed series...
I have played many open world games, and most of them kept me going.
Well now. I dont really have to explain why you are wrong any further. Two worlds, risen, gothic and assassins creed are better than skyrim? Man you really have no taste do you. Risen and Gothic are exactly the same garbage with even worse combat and crappy story. Especially Risen. Two worlds 1 is utter shit and AC is basically for sheep at this point. Two Worlds 2 was good thou. I somewhat agree on that. And really man you are wrong about the scoregiving. They werent scared of the fanboys. Belive it or not people did like the game. Even the most critical truth telling critics rated it high. Like Angry Joe and Zero Punctuation. And if you have watched their reviews they have no issues on utterly shitting on massive fanbases if the game really is shit. In which case its not. Its just your personal lack of taste which you are trying to shift to some mainstreamgaming issue to make yourself look cool. I can respect honest criticism. Skyrim aint that good, its got flaws and its not for everybody. But what you are doing is just being horribly wrong.

Lol seriuslly Nightmare. Atleast do us the courtesy of googeling before giving totally false info. I dont think he knows what an engine is. By god we once caught him not understanding the difference between a gif and a jpg. This would not suprise.

Difference in this game and any earlier elder scrolls installment is, that none of them were supposedly the best game of the year they were released.
Also I think you are overexaggerating the importance of the GOTY title. It doesnt really mean "best game of the year". There is no such thing as the "worlds greatest game this year" title. As it appears thats what you think, otherwise you wouldnt really care about it, like mostly most people who know what a GOTY is. Shitton of websites and awardshows give out their own games of the year for different categories. Skyrim mybe won in few important pages in its own category, so Bethesda used that for marketing and made a GOTY edition which is a fully patched dlcd version of the game. Nothing more. Thats it. Again, thing you would have known if you had the ability to google.

Plus, people got over this in 2011 when it came out already. This is what mods are for.

When I played I wanted to be a mage guy but offensive magic in the game was so shit when the game was new, ended up with illusionist stuff, man that was broken fun as hell. The calm / backstab combo  Also making people fight eachother while you hide in a dark corner

There must be a crapton of mods now that improve magic anyway, especially destruction tree because it sucked as the game scaled up.

Bethesda doesn't know the meaning of consequences unfortunately, so it can't create a decent rpg. Skyrim is just good to look at and that's all imo, but if u search for a real rpg game, well search somewhere else.

I don't know, some parts were good but I got bored of it quite fast. The dungeons are quite generic and become very repetitive because they all feel so similar. It's great for the open world but not so much for everything else.

I loved Skyrim for the first week and played it a LOT. Certainly worth the money; just got super bored after completing the main quest.

How is Skyrim a good open world game? It has this huge open world with really good looking environments, granted, but all you do in there is talk to people and then they tell you to get into a dungeon where you walk in the same environment for two hours, fight slight variations of the same enemy for two hours to retrieve some shit you don't cares about and bring it back to the guy you don't care about. The dungeon focused gameplay is just incredibly lazy. It makes the world very unconvincing as there is just jack shit going on on the surface. Something which for example Fallout New Vegas did a lot better. I enjoyed Skyrim for about 20 hours after which I rushed myself through the main quest to see if the story went anywhere, it didn't.

I personally got good hopes that the Witcher 3 might to demonstrate what a good open world RPG actually means, if they do then it should quickly become clear that Skyrim definitely is not one.

The conversations and how they work were always TES's weak point. Witcher does conversations well and as a consequence the world feels way more alive.
