My ancestors originate from a small village in the western Mali called Jenne, where they lived in peace and prosperity for thousands of years. That is until Europeans came and massacred most of the village, enslaving the rest and shipping us off to the new world where my ancestors were forced to work on Spanish Plantations for another few hundred years. Then around 1851 an American slave-owner from Texas obtained ownership of my Great(x4) Grandfather and he worked the fields for another 10 years of his life, until the American Civil War occurred. After the war my family was finally free from years of slavery, of course the long struggle towards full acceptance would take a long time (and still is happening today).
It was Europeans who enslaved my ancestors and kept them in chains for hundreds of years.
And it was Americans that freed my family after one decade.
So please tell me Panos, what do I have to thank Europeans for?
