I understand your point Utrakil and others. I understand the need for photographing a happy moment with people you love. It is not something new and it will never get old. Nobody, including myself, has any right to criticize that. Speaking strictly based on my own experience, I can tell you that a solid 70% of all such photos by the people I know do not even belong to groups of closely acquainted people. Really, they are just photos of people who only intend to do that shit for the sake of doing it.

absolutely has to do it on any irrelevant occasion with any random people. Like on a boring business trip with boring colleagues in a group of people, who secretly dislike each other. The way I view it in the case of my friends and colleagues, their ultimate purpose is to upload to the internet stuff that is titled "putanytitlehere selfie".
