Without speed/hold bonus, you're looking at a good mid 30s damage of a hit against that morion. That's still very high and can easily reach close to 1hit potential with good holds and movement. Holds are good situational approach methods for those who anticipate a regular swing+miss. Against those above 50 armor, it's difficult to 1hit someone unless you're on a horse.

What?
You do get speed bonus with overheads if you move forward. Or if your enemy moves towards you.

I thought you only get speed bonus if you move in same direction as your swing. Moving forward/backward while your axe is coming straight down doesn't make it connect any faster.

If you kick then overhead someone, you aren't holding your swing and you aren't getting a good speed bonus. That's probably the main thing. If you are holding overheads properly and w-keying with any high cut weapon in the middle of a clusterfuck, you will Feel the Power properly.

You aren't going to one shot anyone but a peasant if you are infantry, unless you are playing Strategus and everyone is in shit armor however.

Also, if you want to "play correctly" as a 2hander, you are supposed to killsteal other classes. High powerstrike or high damage weapons are meant to ensure you get the killing blow (on a enemy or teammate) from behind on a shielder who just "skillfully" backpedaled while holding RMB and spamming stabs against a 360 jump spinning awlpike user.

Ironically this is why balanced builds are best for kills as 2hand, you do enough damage to killsteal, remain fast enough to get in position for the killsteal, with enough HP to survive friendly archers, pikers, and cav trying to killsteal you within the first 2 minutes of the round.

Well you're not actually moving your weapon straight down when you overhead, you move it forward and down or something.
I've tested how speedbonus works in singleplayer, and if cRPG doesn't change that mechanic significantly here's what I came up to:
- you get speed bonus when you move forward with any strikes (for side swings it gives just almost as much as moving to your side)
- for side swings, you get the most speed bonus, against a static target, when you hold your W and turn on your side while doing the swing (to your left with a right swing and to your right with a leftswing).

 You're a pretty bad sceptic. Re-read what I originally wrote, he was hit with two arrows before I swung into him. It was a solid head connect. If you want to doubt the reliability of my story, go ahead, it won't get you anywhere on your next undergraduate paper. I'm sick of you B+ college students applying this got-to-top-the-next-guy criticism to everything you encounter in life. It's not appropriate. I'm asking for some simple tips to play better and you're just giving me nonsense. You sound like a complete idiot, do you realize that?

Thanks to everyone else though. Most of this stuff I already know. I was wondering more if there is something particular about the Persian, I've heard a couple times that certain weapons have sweet spots or some weapons have wonky hitboxes. I know all the stuff that's easy to find by searching, but there's some things about this game that are hard to look up - like how exactly unbalanced traits work, or how certain weapons have longer chambering timezones than others.
Let me show you what it is that we read and take in.

I'm level 33, 9 ps, 5 ath, 5 wm and I have 139 points dumped into 2-handed. I use a MW Persian Battle Axe.

Just now I kicked and then landed a cleanly placed headshot on an obvious polearm agility build, his helmet being a Blue Morion, and I didn't kill him, he was wounded by two arrows prior.

I feel like when I connect my hits I'm not doing the damage I should be doing. I don't know if it's the lack of a speed bonus or the hitbox of the Persian, or if my expectations are too high. If I play with a MW Highland Claymore or a MW Morningstar, the damage feels good - it feels like I'm the heavy hitter I should be.

Any tips?

And let me also explain how this came to be.

If you've been here as long as we are, and some way longer then I have, your brain will develop a filter that filters out all the bullcrap people post, it is a sort of natural protection we have developed vs QQ-I-Am-Not-Stronk-Enough threads.
I loot corpses of their golden teeth.
But he'll be around somewhere between Heaven and The Devil, because neither of them will take him in, and he'll be farting loudly and singing a filthy song.

i'll be there at around

This is the most wonderfully concise and accurate description of cRPG I've ever read.

I feel that if the server if full of people with loomed medium plus armour its morningstar time.

Plus I know this is probably bollocks but I think that extra athletics makes a big difference to damage, I could be talking rubbish but its an impression I've got.
