Look what I stumbled upon...

Yesterday I was preparing tools and gear to paint the living room today and when I was searching through all the stuff, I came across an odd looking thing.
When I grabbed it and took a closer look I nearly dropped it out of surprise...

This is a picture of the backside. I won't post the front side cuz it actually has an emblem with a cute puppy in it
The blade itself has an etching in it which shows "RZM M7/8" which I found out stands for "Reichs Zeugmeisterei" which was the supply office of the the 3rd Reich from what I understood. The "M7" is giving the category of the weapon, "M" stands for "metall" and the "7" is the category for "knifes, daggers, swords etc". The "8" at the end stands for the manufacturer of the dagger.
The dagger was issued to the Hitler Youth. Considering that the first ones had an acid engraving of "Blut und Ehre", I think cuz I can't remember the words right now, which translates into "Blood and Honour".

Now I have this thing and don't really know what to do with it. I checked around for quite a while and found a few auctions of those daggers. They seem to reach kinda nice money tbh. I found stuff between €100 and €500. Personally, considering the pretty good shape it's in, I'd say I could end up somewhere in the middle. IF I can actually find a buyer or even a way to sell it off. Keeping it doesn't seem like an option to me.


I am posting this cuz this forum seemed to have quite a lot of historical interested people around and I figured some might be interested in this piece of history. It's not something that drops in out of nowhere every day, right?

The thing is that I don't even know where it came from to be honest.
My mother and me think that it's from my grandfather somehow. But neither of them were part of the H-Youth as far as we know. Both were in the Wehrmacht, well, pretty much every men was back then but both were already too old for the Youth.
So, the question stand, where did it come from?
Though I don't expect this question being answered ever since none of them is still alive, neither anyone I could even ask.

Well, I'll see if I can find a buyer for that thing and try to get a few bucks out of it, I guess. I know that there are collectors for this kind of stuff. But it looks like those daggers are rather common stuff. Only thing in favour is probably that good state of it as a whole. And then there is the legal aspect I am not sure about...

The way I understand it:

It is allowed to own this kind of stuff even in Germany when it's for historical research purpose, in military collections or for selling/trading.
It is not allowed to use it in any propaganda or political way. And I think it's not allowed to display it publicly.

I found a forum for collectors and registered an account. Opened a thread, explaining how I came by it and linked the same picture there. 20 minutes later and I already had my first PM, asking me for pictures and few responses, telling me that I shouldn't sell below €100 cuz it looks to be worth this kind of money in any case.

That isn't possible since both my granddads were POW way before the war ended. One was in Murrica, working as a helper on some farm and the other one was in a British camp in France.

But really - awesome find, im a big fan of ww2 shit, in the land behind my house we have a river(the small kind, idk the english word for it, theyre like 1.5m wide 20cm deep, the little ones.) and me n me dad heard stories about the germans upon retreating throwing their shit in the river. So we went with our metal detectors and gave it a shot. We found leather ammo-holder full of ammo. Now this CAN be dangerous so we kept it intact, im not gonna fiddle with it because you never know with old ammo, might go boom in ya face!

We also found a rifle barrel, most of the wood had rotten off so its pretty much only the barrel, theres still some wood on it doe nothing special.

I guess my dad found it from the woods on a hunting trip or something. There's this one place near my hometown where the Germans had a base. The trenches are still visible and some rusted metal crap can be found at times. Nothing much since the area was cleaned very carefully after the Lapland war (mines and other nasty shit everywhere where nazees had been).

Btw scorched earth is a viable tactic, but in Lapland Germans did some pretty crappy stuff like planting bombs into people's houses (the ones they didn't burn to the ground). True story: Family comes home after the war. They settle in and tell their youngest son to pick up some firewood from the shed. Little did they know the shed door was booby trapped and it blows up the house leaving the boy an orphan. Ofc those traps were made to slow down the Finnish forces and cause some casualties to the opposing army but goddamit did it really have to be that nasty ...

All that burning and destruction is also why some older men might still be feeling uncomfortable when they see a German guy holding matchsticks in Lapland .
