New? duel meta

Maybe this is already well known and im just a baddie but i noticed the sheath/unsheath animation is very fast.

So the move im talking about is sheath/block/knockback nudge/unsheath/slash. Tried it, took me a few times to really do if very fast, you can possibly have a free hit if you time it right and the enemy really doesent expect it, also, easier to land than kick because you can wiggle it. Works mainly because the unsheath animation after knockback nudge is instantanious (the weapon just kinda appears in your hand ready to swing)

Edit: talking mainly about 2h/pole dueling, as to avoid confusion about why you would sheath/unsheath.

I've seen people changing weapons to cancel their nudge animation, but I don't think it actually let them get a free hit.

Looking for more imput, worked a couple of times for me because if you unsheath the weapon regurarly the unsheath animation starts (he goes with his hand to the back and pulls out the sword). However if you unsheath at the end of the knockback nudge animation there is no unsheath animation (the weapon magically appears in his hand completely ready to go - even less delay than kick slash)

You can switch weapons while in nudging animation, but I don't see how that could be useful in duels. It doesn't let you hit faster than you normally could afaik.

I didnt mean swing speed but unsheath animation speed, that you could possibly hit him while he is still in the kockback nudge stagger due to the fact that the weapon appears instantly in your hand. Its kinda hard to explain in text what i mean, i should probably make a video of it.

I mean the nudge when you put your unarmed hands up to block, then nudge, the longer one. The enemy is staggered a couple of moments longer than when you just regurarly nudge unarmed with your hands down. Imediately after you hit, while he is still in the animation try unsheathing your weapon, its extremely fast and you can swing right away. Could be a neat move i dunno. Looking for someone else who tried it perhaps. Im not actually an active/good dueler

I see what you mean, but there's no difference in how soon you can hit after a nudge, no matter have you unsheathed your weapon or not.

Unarmed nudge is basically a 1h nudge, so try and compare these two scenarios:
1) 1h in your hand, block-nudge, hit.
2) unarmed, block-nudge+unsheathing, hit.

You will see it takes equial amount of time to do for both.

Oh yea sorry, i should have mentioned i was talking mainly about 2h/pole dueling since we dont have the equivalent of a 1h nudge, overhead nudge is difficult to land and has a smaller stagger afaik, not to mention the faster 1h unsheath animation, thats why its kinda cool for pole/2h, its almost instant since we usualy have a long ass animation.

So the benefit of a 1h nudge with the superior reach of 2h/pole, you could possibly catch him in the knockback stagger with your swing reach.

The whole point of my posts was: no you can't. No matter how long your weapon is, your enemy can always block your hit after you nudged him, even with the "unsheath" abuse.

Maybe I got you wrong though, could you show me what you mean on EU3 so we can test it?

I think you can't nudge between releasing your attack and landing a hit.

You can't afaik, and im pretty sure about that, since it would be completely retarded.

Ontop of that your trick is risky, i often use the sheath/block+nudge, but that is usually only to push an enemy/friendly down :D. So as you said, the trick is primarily to show off/throw someone off  their game, if anything, since it is not really that useful.

Majority of the faster 1h'ers left swing can do the "hold attack>nudge>release" attack and get a free hit. I used to abuse that all the time
Here, dear crpg folk, we have an honest man who doesn't conceal the truth out of the fear of getting nerfed. He surely deserves a round of heartfelt applause.

That can be blocked Bob, I think Phew does that rotation quite a bit, and Rotfeast as well.  It's brutal but blockable.  As for the topic, it's shit like this that cheapens melee and creates ranged shit heads.  Clear readable animations should be the priority.  You've already got feints, spins, eratic movement, levels and looms, etc in the offensive toolbox, abusing animations shouldn't be a part of fights.
