1h cav horse?

I haven't played cav in a very long time, so I'm looking for horse suggestions.

Is destrier too light?  I used to play with a War Horse that I liked a lot, but I'm not sure what changes there have been to cav in the last 6-9 months.

I just tried a gen with a destrier and a knightly arming sword, it felt like either my sword was too short or my horse was too tall, my swings went through the enemy so much without a hit

I had an unloomed padded war horse -- went down in two hits from someone with a 1h weapon!
I'm not sure if looming the horse helps a whole lot, but I was quite taken by surprise.

Looming a horse has more benefits than a sheer increase in survivability, such as speed and manuever boosts.

My guess is that the loom bonuses make the difference of surviving an additional hit for lightly armored horses and up to two or three additional hits, given those hits were executed properly (glancing terribly is not an example of that).

On top of that, given you're a good rider; a loomed horse makes you avoid from getting hit much more compared to a non-loomed horse. This is especially true for lighter horses but this benefit is arguably less for "tanky" horses since that little difference in manuever does not make up for it in most cases.

That being said, my horse rarely gets hit when I choose to engage in melee with my +3 destrier; yet it offers enough tankyness to survive against projectiles. I think a good defence and offence for cavalry is manuever and speed, and a bit of armor on top of that to survive those few unexpected arrows.

I miss the days when horse height was part of the stats on the store page.

The padded/barded horses are a good compromise as well. I like them better than the destrier.

Do you think the horse height makes enough of a difference when using 1h to be considered?

when I was 1 hand cav. I could use any horse with my arming sword. The Horse height doesn't matter that much anymore, or atleast didn't affect my playstyle.

The real problem with 1 hand cav is that you are now the shortest ranged cavalry. I can almost garuntee that lancer cav will see you as an easy target. Currentley IMO you should use loing arming or spathion on whatever horse you can avoid being hunted down on. Which is why I suggested the +3 courser.

barded is a very good horse IMO takes more hits than destroer and sacrifices only 1 speed and maneuver which isn't much, just get 6 riding. For a 1h I'd do like an Italian sword or something
