Can you play Diablo 2 with Windowns 8? Can you visit Youjizz with it?  If yes , who cares , the most important thing is loot and boobs.

I was despereate when i switched on win7 from winxp , but after some months was like *notbadface*

if it is for me , fuck windows and install linux but i'm a lazy ass and i'm scared for the games compatibility.

What kind of games do you run mostly?  Eight gigs is fine right now for just about everything.  Only a handful of applications, like a heavily modded Skyrim for example, are starting to use more.  Since I just started playing Skyrim myself I might personally go with 16GB (which would require you to upgrade to a 64bit OS as well).  The only concern I would have is that DDR4 is supposed to hit the consumer market towards the end of this year...maybe.  Well, it's a tough call really.  The release time-frame isn't set in stone and it will almost certainly be overpriced at the beginning AND it's going to require, at the very least, a new motherboard.

Anyway...as for brand-names, I trust Corsair, Mushkin and Samsung.  G.Skill is another popular brand among gamers but I have not personally used them before.

Skyrim is a 32 bit application with LAA, and as such it cannot address more than 4GB. There will be no difference whatsoever between 8 and 16GB RAM, unless your OS and background applications are using more than 4GB.

basically

do you need it for casual PC use and gaming = 4gb
are you running more "heavy" applications or virtual machines at the same time = 4gb+

No, by default it couldn't - until Boris created ENBoost anyway.  I don't know exactly what magic he used but Skyrim is now capable of hogging more than 4GB.  I'll personally get harassed about being out of memory if I forget to close even a minor application before playing Skyrim.

EDIT:  Just to be clear.  Technically the additional memory load comes from enbhost.exe and not tesv.exe.  This distinction doesn't matter to a gamer like me but for the sake of not derailing this thread further I thought I should mention it.
