The 30 Best Ways to Improve Melee: BattleGrounds

I have a list of 30 carefully considered suggestions for chadz's highly anticipated new game which I think should be seriously considered for implementation. Some of these suggestions are based upon realism (no. 5), and some of these suggestions are more about improving fun in the game (no.15), but I think they're all worthy of consideration for the new game.



Here is the list:



first, stamina, scene in game of thrones where light armour guy kites shielder for 5 minutes then kicks him over should be your inspiration

second, backflipping

third, forward flipping

fourth, double jumping (like you can jump once then jump off of an enemy's head, not just double jumping in mid air like TF2)

fifth, japanese character faces so people can more accurately role play samurai

sixth, magic (but only if it's done in a REALISTIC way, none of that harry potter shit i want gandalf "YOU SHALLNOT PAAAAAAAAAS" level quality)

seventh, make it so that you can kick with both legs at once

eighth, make it so that you can kick horses (as they charge at you, you kick their legs and they fall)

ninth, make it so that when a horse dies and the rider falls to the ground, he takes some damage (not all of it but like 30% of his total hp or something would be cool)

tenth, some mechanic (any mechanic), to reduce the frequency of random chambers (if indeed you are adding chambers), for example (only an example, probably a shit idea), holding the walk button whilst you chamber

eleventh, taunts, you should be able to spit at the enemy and call them fat etc

twelfth, decapitation, cutting off arms, legs, etc, more blood (though you shouldnt be able to cut off penises, we wanna keep it PG friendly)

thirteenth, 'killing blows', so if someone's on less than 10% hp, you knock them out with a mace etc, then you can press a button and execute them whilst they're stunned, however, whilst you're executing them, you can still be hit by anything, meaning that if you execute someone you're an asshole who deserves to get shot, as they hopefully will (note executions should be added to try and make people like panos who would execute people a lot die more in stupid ways, not to give people who execute any form of discernible advantage)

fourteenth, everyone should be able to get ONE pet in battle, you can either get a falcon, a tiger or a snake (each one gives you different bonuses, and if you use the tiger you also have to use a scimitar because india)

fifteenth, make combat much more similar to guitar hero (you'll have to figure out how to implement that one yourselves)

sixteenth, currently you can only play as a MALE or a FEMALE, but i think that you should be able to pick your age as well giving you specific abilities, so for example children get the ability to be really small, whilst men of fighting age get to be the strongest, whilst old men get the powers of 'casual racism', 'back in my day', and an ability that gives them more damage against children called 'power of the saville' (you'll have to work out how to actually implement these ideas). oh, and women should have shinier armour because they can clean better

seventeenth, on every map you should be able to claim a house. it always struck me that the houses seemed so empty, so once the map starts (not the round), everyone should be able to run to the house they want and claim it, and try to raise a family (possibly using a system similar to the one in guitar hero), before the enemy team comes and rapes and pillages them (probably not appropriate to add raping mechanics, but pillaging mechanics would work pretty well (probably could use a pillaging system which reflects the gameplay in flappy bird))

eighteenth DUELS in the battle server, you should be able to challenge someone to a duel in the main battle server, where once initiated, your guy turns bright BLUE, and the enemy turns bright GREEN (like with magic fire around them), and no one else can hurt them, and the winner of the duel actually effects the battle, so for example if the guy from team 1 wins the duel, then 15 randomly selected guys from team 2's team just drop dead (to reflect the morale penalty)

nineteenth healing. you should be able to have bandages as an equipable item, which you can wrap around your armour and it can heal you.

twentieth add a charisma stat. this is a great idea, basically it's like in single player where you have strength, agility, but also give charisma, what it basically does is allow you access to more voice commands in game (you could even add songs), allows you to equip more musical instruments (which are like weapons, but give a damage / armour / hp / regeneration buff to allies around you when you are playing depending on which weapon you select), gives you bigger text in game, at higher levels gives your text different COLOURS, and finally you should be able to poll more often and about different things (such as, someone with 30 charisma should be able to poll "should all archers/2h/shielders/cav die this round 1, yes, 2, no etc).

twenty first people who have responsibility are usually the most responsible. therefore, in order to try and change them (to make them more responsible and pillars of the community), the people who got banned the most in crpg and are regarded as high level trolls should be given their relative positions of admin. so panos should be head admin, bjord a high level admin, all the trolls given high level admin basically

twenty second dual wielding. you should be able to use 2 1h weapons, or 2 crossbows, or 2 daggers, but each one of them should only do half damage than if you had them in one hand, and you shouldn't be able to block. also, you should be able to dual wield shields

twenty third the +1 system on the forum is really popular, people always like +1'ing people's posts, so they should add someone similar ingame. for example, if someone does something really good, like wins one of the duels i said earlier, an ally should be allowed to go up to them and '+1' them by like patting them on the back, which gives them a morale buff and increases their armour and damage and stuff.

twenty fourth you should be able to pull used ammunition from dead bodies. and alive bodies. so if i throw a throwing axe into someone's back and run off, then they run off and a couple of minutes later, i can sneak up behind him, pull the axe out of his back whilst he's fighting someone else, and throw it at him again. this should also be true of arrows, bolts, throwing, etc

twenty fifth whistling for horses. in crpg we whistle for generic horses, and all of the local horses come and it's a mess. therefore, in the new game we should give all of the horses names based on what the player chooses, and when you "whistle", it shouldn't whistle but instead it should call out that horse's name really loudly, so my guy could be liek "ERNSWORTH, EEEERRRNNSSWOORTHHH", and my plated charger comes galloping across the map to save me

twenty sixth add cool kill quotes. so if i kill someone with a decapitation there should be like a 10% chance that my guy says "heh, don't lose your head". or if i kick someone off a bridge into a frozen lake he should say "cool off", stuff like that

twenty seventh add a new team, currently it's just blue team vs red (or whatever colours), but there should be on certain maps an AI faction (which has the same number of bots as the total players in the server), and each time player kills a bot he should level up and get more damage and abilities etc

twenty eighth replace the flags system with mongolians. instead of at the end of the round there being a flag system so everyone has to fight over that, hundreds of mongolian bots on horses should invade shooting arrows and lancing and stuff, so that the last person left alive wins the round, and the other guys die

twenty ninth when you do duels on the main battle server, (or even give it an option on the duel server) so when you choose your type of duel, you can choose "duel to the death", where the loser has his character deleted (or at least set to level 1), and all of his +3 looms are inherited by his son, but because they're old and stuff they all become +2 looms. this would be historically accurate and also give people a real sense of OMG OMG OMG surrounding duels. just picture it now. "OMG GUYS, GUYS, DID YOU HEAR BJORD IS DUELLING QORAY -- TO THE DEATH -- TODAY !! THEY'RE BOTH SO PRO, DID YOU SEE QORAY'S VIDEO A FEW MONTHS AGO ?? YEAH AND BJORD'S RAP, I LOVE THOSE GUYS, I HOPE ---x--- PLAYER WINS AND THE OTHER ONE HAS HIS CHARACTER DELETED!!"

thirtieth instead of clans we have families. so instead of a clan leader you have a clan "mother", and a clan "father", and if someone important in the (clan) "family" dies near you (like the grandma or grandfather), then your character is saddened, and he drops to his (or her), knees and starts crying, and everyone else in the family takes a % reduction to their damage and armour






I hope these suggestions are seriously considered and are helpful to chadz and the rest of the development team

(if you use any of my ideas i want to be in at least the top 20 people on the "list of acknowledgements" in the game credits, and at least % of all profits from the game)

also, if anyone has any further suggestions just write them down and i will add them to the list






Other people's suggestions:

thirty first (suggested by lennu) add dragons, but make it so that you can block their fire with shields (or 2h), and make it so that if you ride them and they can fly and stuff, first, make it so you need at least 6 riding skill (for balance reasons), and second make it so you can't shoot arrows or xbows off of them (or everyone would be kiting in the air with dragon archers and dragon crossbowmen)

thirty second (suggested by teeth) remove stairs, crpg is not as disabled friendly as it perhaps could be, and the new game should aim to remedy that. stairs should be removed at every point possible, so that there is no where that wheelchairs (and coincidentally pikemen) can't reach. gentle inclines should be allowed, but if they start to look stair-y, they should be removed

thirty third (suggested by joseph porta) elves. give them increased WPF/damage with bows, but because they are all homosexuals make it so they can only join homosexual clans; there can be no female characters in those clans, and they cannot use any weapon greater than 4 weight because of their girly arms

thirty fourth - (suggested by tannhauser von krems) religion, each character picks one when it is created and gets special powers from it - Hinduism: If you perform too bad (kill too many or to few) you're being reborn as an animal (ie goat). Then you either have to hunt / kill / tear apart other animals to become a human hindi again or you climb down the hierachy further and further. Man --> Goat --> Horse --> T-Rex --> dolphin --> frog etc.
Nordic mythology: Lightning air strike if you killed enough people with a hammer
Jews (well that's easy): You have to loot equipment and sell it before the end of the round for bonus XP & gold
Fundamentalists : *Boooom* and you get a virgin for every guy you blast away in your own team. --> Build several families in the claimed houses
Catholics: You have to pray a lot. No impact
Buddism: You loose, if you kill

thirty fifth - (suggested by dynamike) Dueling: chance to duel other dead players while the round lasts. Duels will end as soon as a new battle round starts. Would achieve the opposite as above and take dead players' attention away from the current ongoing round

thirty sixth - (suggested by dynamike) Betting whilst dead,  one player types something like "!bet 10,000 blue" (to bet 10,000 on the blue team), and it has to be called by another player who says something like "!bet call "playername"", which means that he calls the other player's bet, but it only works if he actually has the money to pay him, and the second he types call it takes the money off of both players, then only pays up when the round ends, (to prevent abuse)

thirty seventh - (suggested by clockworkkiller) Firearms, make it so that you can only use them if you have 10 powerdraw, but they always 1 shot kill, and can shoot like 100 bullets a minute. but to balance them, make it so that every firearm only starts with 3 bullets, and you get 2 bullets for every player you kill, so that they are balanced

thirty eighth - (suggested by life) create an effective "assassin" role, poison dagger that cripples your opponent (causes the opponent to become drastically slower, maybe affect their swings / blocks to become slower, not everyone should be able to carry a poison dagger, make it so it fills up every weapon slot, the dagger should do substantially more damage when striking a target from behind

thirty ninth - (suggested by radament) add goats , yes but fuckable goats so when you die you can play with them in a restricted area but in private cabins (obtainable on marketplace) so anyone can't see which type goat you are humping. don't make this a minigame , just a separate area in EU_1 , like an happy island where all the deads can enjoy the rest of the round. oh i forgot to say , if you have a masterwork goat it gives you 75% morale for the next round , +2 gives 50% , +1 25% , no goat gives you depression debuff

fortieth - (suggested by tydeus) Real numbers. Real numbers, everywhere. so when you join the server, it tells you that you took 2.3123875 seconds to join the server. then, when you make a left block followed by a retaliatory swing, it tells you that this took you 1.9902342 seconds, compared to your average of 1.9983745 seconds. ALSO, instead of just having a kill / death stat on the website to note your e-peen, add a win / loss stat (how much you contribute to winning rounds is more important than how many kills you get without dieing)

forty first - (suggested by darmaster) caps lock removed. and the "xD". they are evil tools, created by justin bieber and sponsored by satan

i honestly think all the realistic suggestions should be added

so basically everything except for the guitar hero thing (everyone knows guitars were imported by african slaves a couple years after the medieval times)

and calling your horse with its name (what if 2 horses have the same name? im sure every 2nd person would name their horse 'kumquart' cause its a badass name for a horse)
