It's a shortened spear, a 1577 gold weapon. Is that weapon OP in melee?

Am I complete jackass if I think it could use a slight reduction in damage or speed, similar to what the Spear received?

I used the Spear plenty and thought it WAS OP, but now is fine. The shortened spear suffers a bit in length, but I find lack of length to be an advantage with certain builds, and at the least, not an extremely essential stat.

Nope. It's strong imo, although I believe the staff weapons are even better. If I wanted to be nitpicky, throwing lance in melee mode should get -2 pierce and -1 to -2 speed, but it's also fine as is and would rather make the other melee modes better.

And I would argue that overall the shortened spear is a more effective weapon. In a duel maybe the regular staff would be better having a slight speed and length advantage, but on the battlefield having a high pierce stab gives the spear the edge. If you sneak up on a tincan, it doesn't matter what you do with a staff, swing or stab, you can only do a meager 18 blunt. But should you sneak up behind a tincan with the shortened spear, you can get a stab ready for a solid 26 pierce damage. Since a throwing lance is only a battlefield weapon, it is lucky to have this highly effective alternative as an alt mode, when imo at least, all throwing weapons that do such great ranged damage should be much worse in melee. And if I recall correctly (I can't exactly check on the website) the throwing lance does a little more pierce than the shortened spear on its melee stab.

1 more. Throwing lance gets +4 to damage.

I just disagree that a shortened spear with +1 pierce is OP just looking at it at face value for a melee weapon. It's also 8k and 1 ammo. How the melee supplements the throwing you can argue either way, but I don't think a weapon with such high requirements having some nice stats is bad. Remember that stabs have a longer ready animation now with narrower sweetspots, which hurt builds with low wpf.

They offer enough damage per stack to be usable when thrown, and you will usually prefer throwing first and melee second when given the chance. The fact that they have usable melee stats makes using a melee sidearm an option instead of being mandatory like with jarids and the like.

Ive honestly wanted to try a 21/18 build with throwing lances; where you don't put any points into throwing just into polearm. Because even with 70 wpf in polearm the throwing lance is pretty decent, imagine what it would be like with 150-160.
