Chambering held attacks, is it possible?
« on: March 15, 2014, 09:11:37 pm »

just tried a few duels focused on held attack chambering

and i seem to get the timing perfect, literally perfect, but it just does not detect a chamber hit, ever.
so i need someone that knows for sure if you can actually chamber an attack that's been held for more than 2 seconds.

thanks.

From my experience the best way to chamber a held attack is to know your opponent and when they will probably release. Other than that, unless you have low ping, your reflexes to see when they release and start an attack then wont be fast enough.

Basically it is mostly luck, if you really want to learn how to do it you will have to practice a lot.
Here, dear crpg folk, we have an honest man who doesn't conceal the truth out of the fear of getting nerfed. He surely deserves a round of heartfelt applause.

Yes, it works. It's not that hard, if you have the reactions to focus on when the movement of the attack starts. Chambering held wiggles I wouldn't recommend, it's very hard to spot when they actually release LMB.
I voted Gurnisson cause of his fucking bendy pike, I swear noone can roflcopter stab like he can.

It's possible if you have a decent ping and skill

Chambering doesn't give you an advantage anymore, since everyone with decent blocking skill can block your chambered hits or realise when you re about to chamber. Also the risk is far more than its reward. Just keep up with your current playstyle :P

maybe its just my movement and positioning then, hiltslashes and stuff maybe effecting it for me, maybe my choice of view or yes ping and server feedback
who knows. i can chamber a series of attacks in a row but as soon as someone holds an attack it just doesn't detect.

I think chambering is easier when your opponent holds :p

For people who use inverted controls, chambering held attacks is often easier than chambering normal attacks.

At least for me it is, 95% of my chambers are against held attacks.

In duels I mostly chamber around 5-10 times and it's hard because you do NOT know whether the enemy is going to hold his attack but I guess it is possible

When an enemy is trying to hold attacks - I simply throw a hit with the same direction of his held attack. If he releases the button - he either chambers my attack (and I block it afterwards) or gets hit. Sometimes I even managed to chamber with such attacks. But seriously, is there any sense in chambering? I used chambering extremely situational, mostly against bad players. If you fail to chamber held attack then you get an additional damage for holding and the risk is not worth it.

Holding attacks for too long results in a 50% damage penalty now.

But yeah, all of my chambers are instinctual. Very rarely do I consciously think about chambering.

This is not how it works. You can only chamber an attack by drawing back your weapon (starting an attack) not by releasing it...

I my experience chambering held attacks is mainly luck or just getting a feeling of how long your opponent holds his attacks.
If someone is "ever-holding" you can always try to attack the same direction and hope that you will be lucky.

But there is no reason to try chambering >1 sec holds, since if you miss the chamber he will hit you before you hit him, and depending on your weapon and WPF you might not even be able to retract your attack to block his.

In my opinion holding attacks is too powerful. There is hardly no incentive not to do short holds (>1 sec) against decent players who do not spam randomly.

Its probably lag. I think if someone holds they are more likely to swing into the attack more with the mouse since its just one movement. Do held attacks swing faster anyway?

Can't you only chamber if its the second half of the release animation? So if someone swings into the attack fast it might be really hard to chamber it
