Still takes three whole months to make an item +3 this way, market will remain as far as I can see.

Ummm,no.
You can make a desired item +3 with 2 of your friends every month.
So once there is a new item added, you can find 2 of your mates to make +3 of that item and put it into market, you won't be alone doing this so this "rare" item will lose it's rarity and therefore price.
Or simply , when some item became popular for various reasons, people can obtain it by themselves rather than buying it for high price due to increased demand on it.

Yes, well, if even undesirable, I guess something could be done to amend this.

Truth be told, i like the idea, but it isn't practical because it would be abused to make heirlooms in demand, selling them at exorbitant prices, and then taking the money to buy another heirloom to rinse and repeat. perhaps if it were limited somehow, but this is one of those all or nothing ideas; people wouldn't go for switching 1 LP a month from a weapon you own, they would want more.

Only arguing for loompoint respec, not how this is accomplished. As long as the result is the same.

Anyway, the two items I'm trading right now - both of whom I use because like many other players in the community I don't have a fully loomed set or any looms in excess - there's no one trading for at the market, nor is there anyone trading the two items I'm looking for.

To rely on a market where supply doesn't follow demand is a bad mechanic for gameplay - not to speak of time waste. As in real life markets favour those who accumulate the most, here the grinders, and if I wanted to grind I'd play one of the thousands generic MMOs out there, in cRPG I just want to be able to change the color of my brigandine once in a while and perhaps change my helmet or gloves without months of hassle, while playing the game at about the same level as everyone else.

Often I find myself using non-loomed gear for this very reason.

It seems unnecessarily bothersome to submit to market discipline on a limited market every time a player wishes to do even the slightest change to his setup in a mod that was originally created with customization in mind, often finding the item searched for isn't even being traded.

For a more accessible, dynamic, customizable mod - for less hassle and time-waste. Can't see how it can hurt, and it will make a world of difference for the playerbase without destroying neither the concept of heirlooming (which arguably can have some merit in terms of accumulating personal value), nor entirely the marketplace.
wat.
I mean, WAT?

I'm not even sure if I got you right, are you suggesting that it would be easier to wait three fucking months "For a more accessible, dynamic, customizable mod - for less hassle and time-waste" to respec your item instead of just trading your +3 for another +3?
Jeez...

The point here is to be able (while not making it too easy as to destroy the looming and market system) to get a rare item that isn't offered on the marketplace, or is offered in a manner you can't possibly meet even if doing side deals. I also phrased the '1lp per month' as a question, I don't know how this could be best accomplished, I just don't think the marketplace is very good as sole medium to find the gear you want, due to its inherent, limited nature.

And yes, it's maybe less of a hassle if you have many looms , because you can make all kinds of aforementioned side deals etc. But I know many players have lost a whole lot of time and gold on the marketplace for this very reason, which would rather be spent in-game, or on something else.

@dreadnok, care to elaborate? How does this confer any advantages on anyone? I don't see how this would hurt anyone or anything. People who don't feel a lp respec makes sense are likely to survive having to accept that people with less market interest or looms can try out different equipment with slightly less wasted ressources than previously.
