Help For A Noob?

So I am a bit new at this strategus thing and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I'm currently at a castle and attempting to buy gear and weapons. However every time I try to purchase them nothing happens. I have enough silver so I don't think thats it. Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

are you sure inside the town? Go to the info tab, and see what it says on the travel time

The speed is 14.609 meters per minute. Maybe I'm not exactly in the city just yet but am receiving troops which I thought was only possible while inside a town.
