The Untouchables (Something Revolutionary In cRPG History)

Ever wanted to see formations in cRPG battles? You think it is impossible or useless?

The Untouchables combines the ancient war tactics with the game mechanics and tries to make something out of this. You can never be touched; if people goes in order. With guarding system that we will implement, you will see that people won't even touch you.

If you want to act as a soldier and try something revolutionary in cRPG, join The Untouchables!

First of all, there are certain classes which you should choose in order to fulfill the assertive name "untouchables" as a clan. Let me introduce them!

Heavy Infantry
Stats: Strength.
Skill: +Average.
Weapon: Spear.
Role: Offensive, Defensive when needed.
Formation, attack style: Center front, Rear, spearwall.

Medium Infantry
Stats: Agility. Dedicated shielder.
Skill: +Novice.
Weapon: 1H.
Role: Always defensive.
Formation, attack style: Center front (Guarding), only opens his shield when it is certain.

Additional Forces
Throwers and Archers -> Behind shieldwall. Center back (Only if there are protection), Wings when attacking.
Cavalry -> Waits in safe zone never dives into enemy. Goes with the main group for bumps; passive.

What is Guarding:
The main system is based on the heavy inf and the medium inf. Every person is responsible for one another; 1 hander follows the spearman as a guard; at the same time spearman guards the 1 hander. Additional forces are guarded if asked. None of us should die.

The hierarchy:
There's hierarchy. Always listen to the commands if you want to get a higher RANK. Even if it looks like it never works (Sometimes you can't do shit because the rest of the team) follow the orders and you will be rewarded. You can promote the other clanmates below you (formula: your rank-1). The highest ranked player will command the rest of the clan in the server. If you want to play individually but don't want to leave the clan, change your banner for that time.

The main philosophy:
At the beginning: Stop running mindlessly. Find a good spot and form a shieldwall and try to figure out what is going on in the battlefield.
Decision taking & Main tips:
1- If the enemy is divided, attack the weak side first.
2- Never run too much.
3- Don't lose the strategic points.
4- Never fight under a arrowstorm.
5- The decision can be holding till the rest of the round; so be patient.
6- Never break formation even if the enemy was coming into you. If you hold your spot, he can't ride over you.
7- Never stop guarding each other.
8- Always follow the orders.
9- If you are ordered to fall back, turn back and run NO MATTER WHAT!
10- Survive! It means if your health gets lower, don't take risks, stay back, flee from the hot line. Don't die, you will see that you will be a lot more useful than you ever before.
11- Don't be kill greedy. Use your shield to press the enemy and let your teammate do the killing if he is in a better position.
12- If you see a lot of people coming onto you, RUN, never fight.
13- Don't follow fucking horse archers or many archers, let them live (Hold, and see they suffer!), you change your way and never chase unless you are a agi whore.
14- Protect your ranged.
15- If things don't go well, CHANGE your choice of flank or do something else.

I mean, what have you got to lose? You know, you come from nothing, you're going back to nothing, what have you lost? Nothing!

We tried similar style tactics back in NH (Norse Horde) and a little in Ravens. Front line shielder/thrower hybrids and backline spears/pikes. The results were mixed, often the formation gets broken up when a 2h or polearm user rushes the formation. For holding choke points or certain terrain features it can work but it involves a lot of training and especially trust between players. The guys in the front have to know that the spears/pikes will cover them from cav or else they may begin to dodge/move around thereby breaking the formation.

On the other side of the coin, the spear/pike users have to know that they will be protected by the shielders. It takes a lot of practice to get the guys into the specific teamplay oriented mindset to pull it off even a little.

I wish you good luck in trying to pull this style of play off.

I wonder if it's the cRPG zeitgeist, but it's interesting to see a counter-push toward this kind of thing.
