How far have you come? What nation are you playing? What nation do you prefer?

played for around 2450 days, currently im the lord of Thir, Sargoth and their castles and fiefs.
I started as nord but ragnar pissed me off so I left and as king of my own tiny kingdom i conquered a sarranid town, then joined sarranid (I keep the town) then i build up an army of sarranid guard and archers. once I had the army, I left sarranids and got back into my old kingdom as king and then I conquered thir and sargoth. once I had what I wanted/my elite sarranid army was wasted I joined ragnar again so now im just a vassal again but with nice lands. ive told my heroes to go speak well about me (gain right to rule) but I cant seem to get any further, have anyone tried to gain the right to rule?

difficulty is good/good not sure if this have an impact

Vanilla Warband SP? Wow, okay.

You know, there are single player mods. Very good ones, even.

oh ye i know i know but now im totally deep into this (over 2600 days! lol) and i can really recommend it, its a real giggle, totally hooked x)

but not so much anymore since im kinda stuck at the gain right to rule :(
there is no where to see how much "right to rule" you have? what decides? how to use it?

if you think warband sp was boring, you should try play it without pissing any of the NPC heroes off and keep as good friends with ALL kings as possible. also become married (of course) but keep your bro in law and your factions vassels close to you and use them as kind of external heroes, give them troops and follow them around and just boost the relation to all the NPCs you possibly can. also i didn't take any combat skills with my main character, i took leadership skills for large army and all the other personal and leader skills but the combat ones. its really fun if you play it this "commander-mode" style IMO. :) in the past i usally just build some zerg main char with loads of str and PS but this is 1000 times more fun IMO :)

its fun to win a 50 vs 500 match with less than 20 casualties x) 30 huscarls, 6 hero-cav and the rest sarranid master archers. rape-squad if commanded properly

I know from Austriano that he gained the Vaegirs Throne due to some "mistake" that happened to King Yaroglek.
Just ask him maybe :)

lol fucking yaroglek haha vaegirs is always the ones dropping first in all the games ive played so far... ive had my issues with my king uaroglek too. vaegirs were creamed and then i thought oh ok and went on with the game. then like 200 days later (i was like O_o) the twat shows up way down in sarranids with a 800man army, he conquer alamads and keeps it for over 300 days until i get enough of his useless 20man raiding parties constantly raping my fiefs. i hate him xD

oh and tnx will ask austriano :)

Right to rule is gained iirc by making peace, not only when being a faction leader, but also when you are a vassal. When I last beat the game I had it through the roof, but that was years ago, so don't remember too much.
About nations, I usually went for Swadia, having an enemy faction take Dhirim, then reconquering it and rebelling when Harlaus said nope, then expanding towards the northwest (swadia-nords), then vaegirs, etc, changing enemies often to gain right of rule and not have too many wars at the same time, and getting pissed when tons of nobles with whom i had good relations decided to come to my kingdom in a short period.

Most of the time I only ever got up to 500 days or so (at the first play throughs).  I almost always used the Battle Sizer mod and TweakMB when I played "Vanilla" SP.  The longest (my 2nd or 3rd time starting a new game) I ended up helping the Nords take over most of Calradia (we wiped out the Swadian faction entirely, and had most of the Vaegir territory).  I was a "faction man" that whole time early on, since it was hard going at it alone (when I was new).  After that I started working towards my own goals, to gain territory, acquire wealth and start a faction.

I usually always start in Nord territory (since they have best infantry, I can get the free "Strange" equipment from Tihr and Rivacheg, and can start fighting Sea Raiders for best loot early on).  Then I recruit Vaegir's to make into archers.  And then I get Swadian's for my mounted troops.   I would usually always join Nords because they have the best troops for storming a castle (IMO).  I would work on getting my army upgraded (both regular troops to higher troop levels, and also getting my followers to higher levels and better equipment).  I'd raid villages of enemy factions whenever possible (and cross my fingers I get something expensive like Linen to sell).  At the same time I'd try and do as many quests for friendly Lords and the King as possible (so I am in better shape to get nominated for Lord of whatever Castle that I'm setting myself to attack and take).  I would do a lot of Tournaments as well, to make some decent money (I'd increase the money you can bet using TweakMB).

At the same time trying to recruit more companions.  I'd use this guide so I don't get people who dislike each other  http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Mount%26Blade/Companion_Builds :

(click to show/hide)

After I besieged and physically captured a castle I'd wait to see if the faction made me lord of it (if so, then I would stay in the faction, if not I'd leave and keep the castle).  Then I'd start stock piling my highest tier troops in the castle and try to get another set of troops to as high as tier as possible in my standing army (so I have an army of highest troop trees in my castle and also on me).  Then I'd try to take over a city if possible (usually would try to attack either a strategically important city (near my castle or else centrally located on the map for highest trade bonuses), or else a weak city that was recently taken over by another faction (so low troop numbers).  After taking it, the faction I was with would normally not give me that city, so I'd end up leaving at that point.  And then try to stock pile a garrison of troops in that city, and start working on my supply of troops in my standing army.

This "early" in the game you don't usually last too long as your own faction (you're an easy target for all factions), so I'd usually try to join another faction and then I'd be recognized as "Lord" of my City and Castle.  The Khergits were usually a good faction to join, because I hated having them attack me on open field battles, but I usually wasn't too picky about who I joined (would maybe join a faction based on who they were at peace/truce/war with and how it affected the proximity of my castle and city).

This is where my games usually trickled off or ended outright.  I suppose if I kept playing I'd try to grow my empire, but most importantly I'd be trying to make friendly with other Lords in Calradia so they'd be more likely to join my "Faction" when I create one.  Other times I would take up the cause of a pretender, but I didn't see much difference between that and being a King of a faction myself.  So I usually chose to become my own faction at some point.

I never made it past more then about a year and some months and it always starts with me tournament hopping to amass a war chest. The best I did was mostly wipe out Swadia after being a lord for them for a while and gaining a couple towns and a couple castles while still being in more or less good standing with the other factions. After that it seemed far too time consuming to slowly raise troops for defense against sometimes ~1000 troops and attempting mundane sieges where the whole thing falls apart and time is wasted if I happen to fall in battle.
And how!

Play SoD mod. New factions and a muuuuch larger map. You have more options as well. Tournaments give a huge sum of money to be able to jump start a faction and the factions actually ally with each other vs other alliances so you get one faction going to war with another because their ally is at war with them. Causes wars to be almost constant so you get tons of right to rule very quickly.

I don't mind slow progress.

army wise it doesn't take me long to get 30-40 huscarls + 15-20 elite range since my main toon is 15 trainer and his 6 companions is 10-12 trainers

Isn't 10 the maximum?

Yeah I've played SP a lot, still playing it sometimes. Have had some different characters, but now I'm playing as a lord of my own faction based in Veluca. I've been thinking about making an infantry-only army so I ended up hiring rhodoks or even using Rhodok Sharpshooters exclusively (they are awesome).
Installed "With fire and sword" yesterday, investigating it now.

now I have to go check lol ffs stupid loading screen

edit: oh ye its only 10

sharpshooters lol I hate them. when attacking a sharpshooter army I always have to expect annoying losses x) yeah they are effective been thinking to swap sarranid master archers with them shieldxbowhomos :D

if I go to notes and check my character I can see my renown and next to renown there is "controversy" I know the meaning of the word but wtf is it in warband?

Controversy is a measure of your loyalty or something like that. It is bad.
I think it increases when you abandon troops or annoy people, as well as when you leave a faction (betray), but i dont know whether it actually affects something.
