Shield speed rating

Yes. I have been playing with a shield for so long and I still dont know how it works. A shield with a higher speed rating makes you swing your weapon faster then a slower shield? If so then how does it calculate between the weapon and the shield speed? Is +/-10 points in shield speed a noticable difference?

I would have put this question in search, but the words "shield" and "speed" don't exactly guide me in the right direction.

Faster shield, takes less time to put the shield up. Has no effect on drop down time. Unless I mixed it.

100 speed shield in theory allows you to block at the same speed as you would manually. In theory...

Shield skill also increases the shield speed. It is very minor, but I feel the difference sometimes; hence why I like high shield skill.

Just test buckler vs a slow shield.

Ye, but how is it calculated? I mean, thats more then oblivious that the weapons speed always counts, but if the shields also counts, then how does it work? I stop blocking then instantly only the weapons speed comes to play and the shields speed is irrelevant?

Shield speed has nothing to do with your weapon; your weapon speed is affected only by its speed rating, your wpf, and your armor weight penalty to wpf.

Shield speed affects the delay between when you press the right mouse button and when the shield is actively blocking. It's been said that 100+ speed shields block as fast as manual blocking, but that's clearly false (shields always block noticeably slower than weapons, especially within a short time after you drop your block).

In practice, it just means that if you carry a slow shield (<~85 speed), you can't "block feint" i.e. drop your block to entice someone to release a held attack, because you won't be able to raise your shield again in time. Also fighting multiple people becomes more difficult with a slow shield. In 1v1, you can compensate for a slow shield by just being conservative and blocking early.

There is a delay between the time you press your right mouse button and when the shield actually starts to block incoming attacks; higher shield speed ratings reduce (but don't eliminate) this delay.

That's all it does.

Shield speed helps when fighting against multiple enemies.
Let's say you fight vs 2 guys trying to gank you. You hit one of them, he blocks, but the as the second guy has already started his swing animation, he hits you before you can block after your attack. That's what happens a lot with slow shields. Happens less with fast shields.
