My secret is to play as an average shielder (102 wpf) and to carry 2 big throwing lances (120 wpf). As they are powerfull, I need wpf only to wear decent armor.
I fight as shielder/hoplite against most opponents and I throw my lances against 2h/poles and cavs, or sometime against a running my old friend archer.
At  paper/scissor game I can win in any situation.

Hey, Shield thrower is nice. Gives you some defensive capabilities against HA/HX, so they'll have to either try to bump you, wich gives you the chance to just throw stuff at them or their horses. *Meow* :3

Thrown-weapons are just super against horses in general. But it's the ranged ones you'll have to look out for.
