Which spear do you think it's the best for battles, when using a shield?

So, there are various players around who like to play with a Spear and Shield set, but which spear do you think its the best for the task?

I'm in doubt about what is the best and would like to hear your suggestion.

These are the spears that I've tryed:

Ashwood Pike
Light Lance
Double Sided Lance
War Spear
Shortened Spear

I'm looking for some advice about wich one should I use.

Light Lance 100%, or regular Spear for close range situations. The two best Hoplite polearms in my opinion.

well depends on your class, are u going full pole and shield or are u going pole/1hand/shield?

war spear for pure pole

ashwood for hybrid (best range and damage balance imo)

On my hoplite I use the ashwood, but that is because I hate the spear sticking out of my back while melee fighting. It also has the best damage of the non-sheathable polearms.

I go 15/21 hoplite and hybrid ashwood/1h/shield.

I feel that you need more agi for hoplite so you can stab fast and also block fast.

Battle fork or bust

As a hoplite you are going to want something that doesn't get you stunned when  you stab, so a higher speed is nice. The light lance is long and does pack a punch, but it is honestly too slow for me as a hoplite. I would go for the ashwood, war spear, or battlefork. If you want to try something new, go for Iron Staff hoplite. It is hysterical when you knock someone down on a stab and it works well without shield (aka when your shield breaks).

Came to post exactly this. Regular spear is great and I even prefer it over the war spear. Light lance has 175 length so it beats out the ashwood pike for range (at the cost of some damage). The overhead on light lance has huuuuge reach too. I really like the ashwood pike, but spear and light lance are nearly as good and much cheaper upkeep. Shortened spear is great on maps that have lots of hallways where long weapons will glance on the walls a lot.

I used the ashwood pike since day 1 and I love it, even making it +3. It's still a good polearm in group fights but not in 1v1.

I used the spear when we were in siege, very effective 1v1 with the 2h spammer. Even in mass group fights.

I'm currently using it to GREAT effectiveness, albeit mine is loomed to +3. It's a fantastic little weapon.
