It is only little related but I want to drop it here.
some interpretations of the "fechtbücher".
So if you buy new weapons you can have a look how to use them historically acurate and effective.

+1 for the effort, that's A LOT of copy pasting, though i'd rather spend that kind of money elsewhere, maybe if i'd have plenty of k's on the bank i'd consider it :D

edit: allthough having this hang above the telly would be cool, it's like 1.3m in length, $1,624.95 is just dirt cheap innit.

I want to see you try to find a long maul haha.

*Starts googling sledge hammer...*

*Scrolls down a bit to get to the bottom to hit reply*

When I saw the long-maul linked to the Home Depot website I nearly busted a fucking gut.

Thank you.

damn, beaten to the punch...

In all honesty though, if a "real long maul" cannot be found, it would be pretty easy to make. Buy a sledgehammer, remove the head, attach it to a ~5 - 6ft long shaft.

Better make sure that the wooden shaft is sturdy as fuck though. I feel like the one in game should be snapping like a twig all the time. There is a reason that the ones nowadays are made of carbon fiber composites... and those are not nearly as long as a long maul.

EDIT: According to the crpg shop, the long maul is only 125 cm long.. which converts to 4.1015ft. That seems awfully short to me. Coulda sworn the long maul was nearly as tall as a person in game, which I would assume is ~6ft.

I was looking at "battle ready" sword reviews online, and was not impressed at all with the findings.  I did however find a "reputable" dealer that is only about a 20 minute drive from my house:

http://armor.com/

They and cold steel are probably the only two companies I would trust to buy a medieval sword from (and I would really like to get one, some sort of knightly or arming sword).  This one looked good to me (was one of the cheaper swords, but what I'm looking for:  http://armor.com/sword036.html)

I found these reviews of sword manufacturers to be helpful:

Most of Windlass's current offerings are pretty good in terms of battle ready.  In the past this was not so much true, which is why they may still have a poor reputation lingering online.

Cold Steel weapons are almost always tough as hell, but some are of dubious historical accuracy.

If you spend $400 or more on a battle ready weapon, you're probably in good shape.  It's the cheaper ones you have to look out for and be careful.  If you have a high carbon steel blade with a full tang, you are at a good starting place.

If you are ever doubtful about a particular weapon, I recommend making a post or doing a search at sword-forum.com.  It's pretty much what those guys do.

I'm less concerned with being "100% historically accurate" than having a sword that's not going to fall apart if I ever use it.  Durability is my main concern really.

Thanks for the advice about posting on a sword forum (myarmoury.com seems like a good site as well).  Carbon steel with a full tang was the best advice people said to look for online (as well as proper heat tempering).

Sure, that makes sense.  Cold Steel is a pretty well respected company as far as I know.  In terms of historicity, swords like their Italian Longsword look fine, but the warhammer looks a bit modern in my opinion, so it varies.  I've heard most of their stuff is designed to take levels of punishment that no real medieval sword would ever be able to sustain -- so it's a good bet it terms of durability. :)

I have one of their tomahawks, it's pretty awesome.
The sword you linked looks pretty badass as well.

Lol @ coldsteel

Go to http://www.bladehq.com
Or
http://www.knifeworks.com

Get yourself a quality knife from a quality brand

Idk about Cold Steels swords, but I find that there knives are a little overpriced
Plus Lynn Thompson is the very definition of a tacticool mall-ninja

Just collect high-end production and custom knives
Cheaper than swords, just as fun and you can actually use them as a tool
You are a horrible human being clockwork.

If i ever get muted on forums, contact me on crpg.net

Their swords are overpriced, but that may be because they are very high quality.  I wouldn't buy a knife from cold steel since there's so many other choices available.  They also are known as a knife company, so their swords may be somewhat hit or miss, but I've only heard very good things about the durability of their swords.

I was discussing swords, not knives when cold steel was mentioned.  I'm not interested in production knives personally, all my tool cutting needs are currently satisfied :P
