Thrust.  It absolutely wrecks horses, which will keep yup out of horse bump hell.

Swords with a good cut and a good thrust work really well, but so do blunt 1hs. All depends on your build/playstyle. If you're looking for a great all around right now, the side sword is a good place to start. I had immense fun with the military hammer.

One oft-forgotten aspect of swashbuckling is block stun, which is predominantly a function of weapon weight (enemy's vs. yours) and strength (enemy's vs. yours). With 21 str, I am block stunned by nearly every held attack from a 3kg or heavier weapon when blocking with my 1.3kg weapon. For this reason, you should consider the heavier 1h weapons (Spathion, spathovaklion, etc.), otherwise you will spend a lot of time having to block twice in a row without being able to attack.

Spathion, Paramerion, and Long Espada are all good choices. Worth the extra cost, they have the reach/speed/damage that cheaper weapons only excel at one or two of.

Personally, I prefer weapons with 80-95 reach. Longer 1H side swings seem to have a habit of getting caught on allied bodies and walls.

Side Sword, Langes Messer, Italian Sword, and Broad Short Sword are my personal favorites.

Don't forget to pack a rondel dagger or other daggery knife thing. If you are built as a 1H swashbuckler they can deal out serious damage with unmatched speed. And what's more humiliating than being killed with a cleaver?

Yeah, Langes is a very nice 1h with "Goldilocks" stats; good cut, thrust, weight, and speed. I also have a lot of glancing issues with >95cm 1h swords, so I prefer the 85-95 cm ones. I only stopped using it because I always accidentally hit X and got killed during the weapon mode switch. That and the huge hilt looks dumb in 1h mode.

The extra reach actually helps fighting those pesky back pedalling 2h/pole with longer reach than you have.

If you find yourself fighting in a tight cluster, swap out the NCS for a dagger of some sort. Very hard to hit teammates with sideswings and the stabs... just aim for the face and they will drop like flies.

also, is the long arming sword a decent swashbuckling weapon? I ask because I already have a loomed one.

I've owned a long arming sword and knightly arming sword. They'll do just fine for swashbuckling.
